BBC Watchdog gets its teeth into Thomson Dream cruise ship...again

Watchdog returns to our TV screens tonight after a four-month break, but some things just don't change - the first show of the new series has another bash at cruise ship Thomson Dream, which they last had a go at in September.

Watchdog is pathetic. There were problems with the aircon? Hardly an unusual occurance in the cruise industry. It would be better if watchdog rubbished EVERY cruise ship that had a problem. They would not have time for any other issues!

Watching it now.... cant they just tow this disgrace into deep water and either scupper it or take it to a breakers yard. It's just putitng cruising into a terrible light. And nearly always they start "this was our first cruise"...

It's so sad to hear all this about the ship, I sailed on her in 1991 on our very first cruise when she was the Westerdam. The most wonderful ship to us. Happy memories.

I'm also watching, I would never go on this Ship, even if it was free.
I remember sitting in a travel agent sorting out a holiday to Cyprus and an elderly couple came in and said they had never cruised before and could they recommend one for them, the staff member spoke about the "brand new shp" Thompson had bought and unfortunately sold it to them lock, stock and barrel, I was intrigued and couldnt wait to get home to check it out on the web and that is when I discovered the history, shocking!
there are still lots of elderly people whom dont have access to the internet and take people at their word, such a shame.

I suppose because they also get reports like this, taken from another site, I have blocked out the name of the poster.

We sailed on the Dream last April the week after Watch Dog had been on and October for 2 week had had 2 great holidays. We are going back on the Dream again this month and we rebooked after the October holiday for 2 week this October.

Can't wait to go back on the Dream really loved the ship.

They shot themselves in the foot by their agents claiming it to be a 'Brand new Ship'...........Yeah like 24 years old!

...........and then added it was a '5 star Ship'.........which it never was and never had the pretence to be under its former owners.

Thomson agents should be sued under the Trades Description Act............

Delboy - I wonder what other ships they had been on? Or maybe they worked for Thomson's? ;-)

On the positive side, if anyone Google's cruise reviews they should end up here, hopefully before they book. People who go on ships like are almost certain to be disappointed. Yes it's cheap, but even the next rung up to MSC or Costa should give anyone a 'better experience' than the stories highlighted repeatedly on this ship.

Haven't seen the programme but will try to catch it later on iplayer.

Travel agents are also to blame because I was in one in Leeds last summer and I asked one of the assistants about the ship and she said it was great. I asked if the problems had been ironed out and told her what I'd read on this forum and elsewhere and at first she said there was no problem and then she said it was minor and had been resolved.

So despite what they might say, TAs are well aware of problems but try to minimise them.

Fair play to anyone who has been on this ship and had a good time but there are a lot of people who haven't and the issues haven't just been confined to a single cruise, they've gone on for months. I wouldn't touch it with a bargepole.
