    love the concept of "trialling a new drinks package"...i bet they are now "trialling" various headache remedies given the ire which they have raised!
    nevertheless, you would have to think very seriously about taking the ai package at £189 per week as this would be 54 glasses of house wine at the new dream price of £3.50 a glass or two bottles of wine a day, if i've done the maths right.

    have found the copy of the letter from thomsons to "dream" guests re the ai package on the "other site" (see photos of dream,posting 73) ;

    draught lager/beer
    house wine by glass
    house spirits, basic choice,nothing fancy
    cocktail of the day,long island iced tea and frozen cocktails
    juices and soft drinks

    one drink only per ai customer at each order
    50% discount on certain other drinks
    (this is from memory,so i may be a bit wrong!)

    why? according to thomsons, they buy alcoholic drinks in euros and it's due to the poor exchange rate.
    but i don't see why this affects "speciality coffees" etc. as i was hoping to use the ai to get a drinkable cup of coffee! but i should have read the small print properly.

    lots of unhappy thomsoners who feel that with older ships and increasingly less competative prices this was one thing in favour of thomsons.whoops.

    special coffees have never been included in the all inclusive. We have had all inclusive a few times and some coctails have been included never premium brand drinks bottled beer of frozen coctails, the range of spirits brandy rum gin vodka, have always been okay and the wine,

    There is some confusion here over coffees.
    Liqueur coffees have never been on the AI but 'speciality coffees' have. By speciality i mean Espresso, Cappuccino, Latte etc.
    Celebration had 9 frozen cocktails available on the AI. Also 34 cocktails which was the entire list! Of the whiskies/bourbons 11 were free and were all well known high street brands. It is true that the 8 premium brands e.g Chivas Regal, Talisker etc etc cost a small amount. In fact there were no house brands on the list and as far as I could see none were used in making cocktails either.

    Hopefully all this is now irrelevant as the restricted package should have been dropped.

    Called Thomsons at 5pm and they were doing a trail on the drinks package on the Dream for 2 weeks and have had so many complaints they have gone back to the original package.

    Someone else had a email from them saying the following :

    Thank you for contacting Thomson Cruise.

    We have had an update from our head office which reads as follows –

    ‘We were trialling a new drinks package for the first few sailings, but this has now stopped with the package back to what it was before.'

    We will re visit the package in the future but any changes will be communicated, existing customers considered and systems updated in line.

    I hope this helps resolve the situation, thanks for your patience.

    Kind regards

    latest news from the other site was that cruisers on the destiny who returned on 8 may 2010 were affected by the reduced ai;only one refill of wineglass at dinner and no free cans of branded soft drinks. much moaning on board and only notified by letter once on board!

    i know that thomson bigwigs were supposed to discuss the issue this morning but i don't know when i will believe them.

    apparently 2011 cruise brochure prices are well out of order as well,not that anyone pays brochure prices.

    thomsons...we like you despite old,worn ships,average food and baseline leisure facilities, but don't push your luck.

    update from the "other site";
    people have been told by their TA that after this morning's meeting the ai package is back to "what it should be" and passengers should receive a notification from thomsons to that effect.....

    Just came off Thomson Celebration - 1st - 8th May 2010. AI package reduced but we feel still good value. Four of us in group and we drank mainly larger and glasses of wine. I personally drank frozen pina colada's which are lovely and dry martini and lemonade. All main spirits brandy, gin, vodka etc free. They now charge for sparkling wine which they did not before and on this cruise they charged for liqueur coffee. We like a drink and for us it was worth it, but it is very limited compared to what it was last year.

    Glenda's reply indicates the AI package has changed as she was on the Celebration, however her drinks list included more items than we had on the Dream. We had no branded spirits at all, or Pina Colada's so is it now different for each ship?

    Apparently all the ships were changing to the restricted AI this summer but Thomsons have had a change of heart Someone currently on the Spirit says they are now getting the better original AI but there were only photocopied menus, indicating a rapid change.
