Hello,
Has anyone had or been advised to have a Yellow Fever jab for travel in Egypt. In particular the Red Sea Magic cruise ??

Viv- only your practice nurse can advise what you need for each cruise, but I can say that, whilst I was advised to have 3 different injections for the Red Sea cruise, yellow fever was not one of them. I had Hep A, typhoid, then the triple dip. etc.

Most surgeries now have a nurse that checks vaccinations for travel. I regularly check with the nurse that I am up to date. A few months after visiting Jamaica They changed their status on one of the drugs. There is also a web site that you can access showing mandatory and advise vaccinations. Yellow fever will last for ten years before requiring another. In some areas there is a special clinic that will only hold the vaccine, so check early as you need to have had a vaccine a certain number of days before visiting. I believe it is a minimum of at least ten days. They will provide a certificate which you must take with you to verify that you have had the vaccine as it is a mandatory drug in countries that require it. I don't know if Egypt is on that list.
Enjoy your cruise.

Do check with the nurse- we can't tell you what's right for you. Ours did mention the fact that she didn't consider this cruise to be terribly dangerous, as it's run under what she called "Med. lines", but it's the going off ship and especially into the sea. It's easy in Egypt to be in contact with someone who is carrying a disease which we may not be used to in this country, and the same in the sea- esp. for my OH, who snorkels all day! He always had the jabs when he went diving in that area.
