    Can anyone help?

Hi, I am doing my research into ports for a cruise in November, then thought it might be worth asking for recommendations on here.

Do you have any 'must sees', 'places of interest' in the following?: Madeira, La Palma, Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote. Also calling at Lisbon & Vigo.

Any information gratefully received, Many thanks. Lizzie

    Maderia

Must see for Maderia is the local market. Full of flowers and fruit and veg which they will offer you to try some of the more exotic fruits. Then walk through to the back and look over from the balcony down onto the fish market. Its quite a sight - huge fish being prepared.
The cable car ride is good if you can stand heights. Go up to Monte and visit the little church then there are some nice gardens you can walk around. Take the Tobogan ride back down.

    Hi Lizzie,
As Bradbusry recommends the trip up to Monte and down in the tobogans is a must.
To save cash rather than expensive ship's toyurs there is a City Sightseeing bus that takes you all round the main sights including the bottom of the cable car going up to Monte..

They also have one in Gran canaria and Lisbon

    Have a great trip

You could take a trip to the medieval town of Obidos from Lisbon. It's more of a village really but we thought it was lovely. It's about an hour's coach trip away and is out in the country so not sure if you could do it under your own steam. RCI had it on the excursions list.

At Vigo we had booked a trip to Santiago de Compostella but after long days of trips in the preceding days I was just too tired to go. Instead we spent a couple of hours walking around Vigo and up to the Castro Park. We thought Vigo was very nice, a working town with lots of cafes (very cheap) and a chance to see less touristy things if you wanted to. The town was having a lot of pavements replaced so was noisy in part but that could have been finished now.

Thanks Lizzie, using my Surname it is so easy for everyone to assume I'm of the male gender. The Avatar is to make it clear I'm very much a girly girl who likes sparkly things!

    Hi Lizzie,
    Just add on for Funchal.
As well as City Sightseeing there is also a yellow sightseeing bus and on this the ticket is also valid for the local buses for getting around town.
So you can get up to Monte for the toboggan ride if you didn't fancy the cable car and the botanical gardens.

Thanks Berwyn, probably a good idea as my husband doesn't do 'heights' e.g. cable car!. Also, there is no way I am doing the toboggan ride!, asking for trouble as I am slightly' accident prone'!!!

Do you think Monte is worth seeing in it's own right?

    Thanks Lizzie.

    Hi Lizzie,
personally no apart from the views.
We're going up to do the cable car ride and the toboggan ride down.
There is a lovely church up there, but there are plenty of beautiful churches everywhere.
