The dog's going to prevent you from cruising??
    You're not serious...
    .
I have great difficulty in getting the wife to leave our 18 year old cat for more than a week, and yes I am serious. 2/3 days is bad enough, but she will not entertain more than a week. It was not helped, that when we did a 14 day cruise in 2008, the cat had lost so much weight through not eating whilst we were away, and had developed cat flue. When we had our dog, there would have been no way she would have left it for 10 weeks, and certainly would not have put it into kennels.

    Hi Everyone
We are booked on the Alaska cruise but we are flying to San Francisco to join the ship on 8/5/2011.
We are flying out on the BA285 flight. I contacted BA and was told our luggage allowance will be 23kg Hold and 5kg hand luggage.
This is not really enough when you consider the different clothing that will be needed for the cruise. ie. Winter and summer clothing plus evening wear for the many formal nights on P&O cruises.
Does anyone know of a way round this problem? I have contacted P&O but they cant help!
Is there anyone doing the full trip who would be willing to take a case on board for us? It would only contain clothing and shoes, I promise!!
    Thanks
    pam

Pam this is always the problem with fly cruising, the only way out is to upgrade to Club or a cheaper way is to pay for the excess luggage. This can be done on line nearer the departure date, via the ' BA managed my booking site' ( it's cheaper to do it on line in advance rather than at the airport on the day)
Many people have this problem when taking part fly part world cruises.

There would be no way you could ask someone who you don't really know to check in a suitcase for you.

    Paul.

Been busy printing off sheets and sheets of information on all the ports we visit from Cruise Critic which has been very helpful to get some idea of trips and transport details in advance and how far from the centre of things the ports are in each place. We are doing the cruise Southampton to Southampton. If anybody else is joining at Southampton and would like to meet up let us know.

The cost quoted on the BA website is £32 for an extra bag - this is each way if you are flying back as well. You used to be allowed two bags on the flights to America but they jumping on the money bandwagon now.

    Thanks for your replies.
I think we will go for the excess baggage option.
I thought P&O may have sorted out some facilities for this problem by now but they don't seem bothered once they have your money. lol.
Is anyone else on this forum travelling from East yorkshire and flying out to San fransisco?
    Kind regards

    Pam,
We are doing the same cruise. There is a solution to the luggage problem. If you contact P&O customer service you can pre-register to have 1 case per person pre loaded in Southampton. Naturally you have to get it there, by courier or other means. I understand it costs £30 per case, which is probably cheaper and far more convenient than excess baggage. That way you can travel light. We are doing the 1 night stay in Frisco, booked on BA on the 7th from LHR.
    Hope this helps

    Thanks Peter
I contacted P&O a couple of weeks ago and they said It would not be possible to preload any luggage!!
Have you arranged to do this? Also is the £30 charge a P&O charge?

Hope to see you on board. We are really looking forward to the cruise. You will probably see my partner Simon on the ship as he likes to join in the talent shows.
    Thanks

I have registered with P&O Reservations by phone (booking ref needed), and they have put me on the list to pre load luggage. They said they will send me a pack about 6 weeks prior to the ship leaving Southampton. I think you have to list the contents of each case for security and insurance purposes. It will also contain payment details.
I emailed them initially to confirm that this facility was available as I know of others who have used it previously. We intend to pre board 2 cases (up to 23 Kg) and take 2 medium cases with us by air.
