Hello Lizzie Dripping, just love the name reminds me of my mother!
Off you go and enjoy yourself. 90 days is not long enough if you love cruising. Don't you worry about space and suitcases. You can soon find room for everything and you can leave things in the suitcase till you need it. You can store your cases in the hold. I have travelled with up to seven suitcases and holdalls as well.
Plus you can do your smalls in the launderette.
Now this is the most exciting room on the ship so I am told. My husband always does the washing and he irons his own shirts, So we never bother if things are creased on arrival as you can iron them afterwards.
On Queen Mary 2 there are launderettes on most deck cabin levels.
These are very very busy places and one has to be quick to get in there without queuing. Many a row breaks out there and lots of gossip goes on. We always book a cabin in an area not to far from the launderette. Far enough away not to have to hear the noise and see the queues but near enough to pop in there when it is not busy which I have to say is not very often.
There were some wonderful stories flying about on QM2. Stories of fights over driers and people fighting over irons. Cant say I witnessed any of this but it is a hub of activity! People get upset because others take two driers or leave washer running and forget to come back etc. Anyhow it is all part of the fun. I posted the comments below the other week to another lady just to give an idea of what I take. It is important when you are away for so long to feel you have all you need to make you happy in my opinion. Plus you can always buy along the way!

    ============================================
As for packing WELL! I pack everything but hey! If you are going to be away for so long a girl needs her favourite things with her.
You will need warm clothes for certain sections of the cruise A warm jacket/ anorak with a hood as it can be cold on deck. A pair of think tights; I have taken a thermal vest as it is bitter cold in NY when the three Queens are all there together and the sail in starts around 4-30 am so rap up! A scarf and a warm hat /gloves which you may need when you reach further locations. Take a small umbrella as you can use in rain and as a sun shade.
The rest of the time you need casual day clothes for warmer climes plus beach attire. Day wear such as trousers and tops for colder climes when inside.
Now for my favourite bit. The evening wear.
I took 28 different outfits for night . This is enough to see you through the whole world cruise. I had 9 long dresses for formal night and 8 cocktail and the rest are semi-cocktail as I don't do casual at night time. These consist of black silk evening trousers and glitzy tops some maybe casual glitzy tops from chain stores but they are good for elegant casual nights. I have five pairs of evening shoes. I wear these each night no matter what the dress code. Plus five evening bags. One pair of walking shoes, three pairs of FIT FLOPS not flip flops. I wear these all day on-board or ashore in warmer climate as they work out your butt! I take one pair of regular smart day shoes, and a day bag, and a bag for sight seeing that crosses over your body for safety. Plus I take my work out gear and trainers as I go to the gym every day. On top of this I take all my hair stuff and I can create a new style for each night. ( I am a hairdresser so that helps) I take fascinators and cocktail hats. Now I can hear you sighing, but this is how I am!
The rest of the things I take are cosmetics and such right down to leg waxing stuff and I take medications in case of illness. All cosmetics I condense into smaller pots.
I know some people who take little things on world cruises to make their room like home. Some friends take photos of family and little nick-knacks . Needless to say I have enough to carry so don't bother. Talking of which I usually get all that into a suitcase and a large holdall and hand baggage. Plus my husband has the same baggage and I nick some of his space. If we have excess baggage we pay it as we don't want to have less shoes for me LOL! I. also have a separate vanity case with my jewellery.
If you sail Southampton and all the way round of course you can take as many bags as needed. Some people bring on a lot more than me and I met a couple of ladies who were still unpacking after four days.
I have my cruise wear that I keep just for that reason so it is not hard to pack once you know what you need. My husband likes his very colourful ties and bow ties, and has a large collection that he takes. So he can't complain about my hair things.
Now I can hear all readers going wow! But this is what every girl needs to survive as far as I am concerned.
BTW we will be on the Queen Elizabeth 2011 world voyage so if you see this woman with the fancy hairdos and a man with loud ties you will know it is me and my other half.
    Have a super time.

How I loved your cruise kit. I am always telling my Jill "you don't need that" like you she takes no notice. On a talent night for the passengers, some good entetainment ensued and then a lady brought on a keyboard, not the modern slimline things but a full orchestra. I haven't seen that beaten, have you? Unfortunately her performance didn't live up to her kit but we still loved her.

around the world in 90 days, go for itand have fun.
i always dreamed of holiday where i packed light and bought my wardrobe from the places that i visited, like hong kong where they can make a suit for you in a day....you could do that for me and post the photo's on this site!
in reality, i'd check out the laundry facilities on the ship first, but us brits can always do wonders with travel soap and the shower rail.think black trousers or a long black skirt, some lovely tops and a pashmina or three.bon voyage.

Is 90 days too long to be a ship? How many clothes can fit into the wardrobes of a standard outside cabin not a suite and where can the luggage be stored. Often wondered as we have been a various cruises, in different grades and with a wide variety of companies but still worried about how to pack suffient clothes for the various climates, evenings, special events, etc.
My 23 year old daughter went on Artemis for 110 days as company for her Grandfather. Leaving from Southampton meant there was no luggage restriction. We packed cases with clothes for the different temperatures they would encounter. So 'sunny climes' cases were stored by P&O in the ship until she needed them when they were replaced by the cases with the 'winter' clothes in etc. Most ships cabins cannot store too much and it also meant more room was available and things did not get squashed. NOT ALL SHIPS HAVE SELF SERVE LAUNDRIES. if they do not then your costs will escalate with laundry charges and they tend to ruin anything not hard wearing and cotton !! Silk and synthetics - Well don't bother as they usually come back ruined. Remember - it is not a catwalk show as everyone is in the same 'boat'. You cant take everything. simple evening tops to go with a skirt or trousers etc. Put everything you want to take out on the beds. Take half away then one third of the remainder and you will have enough. Men are always easier to pack for - for a start they don't need all those shoes !!!!!!!!!
