Looking for tips for World Cruise

Is 90 days too long to be a ship? How many clothes can fit into the wardrobes of a standard outside cabin not a suite and where can the luggage be stored. Often wondered as we have been a various cruises, in different grades and with a wide variety of companies but still worried about how to pack suffient clothes for the various climates, evenings, special events, etc.

Hi Lizzie and welcome aboard! They are a very friendly bunch and on these forums so feel free to ask away!

90 days too long? Well you're not really stuck on a ship as every day or so you have an exciting new port and country to explore, so try and think of it as a hotel with a different view each day. You haven't mentioned which ships you are considering? My favourite is QM2 and I can't think how you could get bored on there. I like the experience of going out exploring the port of call then coming back and discussing it with like minded people over excellent food. QM2 is alos used to having to entertain people for 7 nights with only sea around it as it criss-crosses the Atlantic, so it has loads of activities; Insight lectures, films, game and games, shows, planetarium etc etc

As for clothes keep in mind that most big ships have free laundries, I now only take half what I packed on my first cruise, if that. Then every 3 days just put a load in the wash, head for a swim, switch to dryer, pop for a drink, iron and done for another 3 days :-)

Have you been over to the main site at cruise.co.uk and checked out the reviews section? There is a dedicated set of 'World Cruise' reviews, this may help you as you make your mind up, or of course ask away in these forums.

I hope this helped and let us know what you settle on, BFN - Grant

Hello there, Lizzie - welcome to the site. The only thing that puts me off a cruise of 90 days is the fact that you'd have to roll me down the gangway at the end of it - so my tip on clothes would be to ensure you take some that you'll wear on the second half of the cruise which are a more 'comfortable' fit and don't take any you can only just get into, because after about a week they will almost certainly be useless to you.

Hey Lizzie, Welcome to the forum, just had a thought that if 90 days is to long for you and you have worries, I dont live to far away I could always pop over and pick up your tickets and save you all the anxiety.

    Hello Liz,
Picked up yourquestion as I saw the 'Peterborough' after your name and that's where I am too!
My husband and I have been cruising for nearly 20 years and have seen quite a bit of the world that way.
We were on P & O in 2004 doing a 100 day Grand voyage. We had just retired, having sold our business and it was such a treat not to go into work every day.
We took 5 large suitcases. We changed from an inside cabin to a balcony very quickly as my husband wanted so more light!
Our suitcases were stored unter the bed until we needed the clothes in them. I'm glad I took such a lot as by the time we arrived in Sydney I was totally fed up with the clothes I had brought with me and bought a new dress in one of the Sydney department stores.
It was a fantastic experience and we made a lot of friends.
Hope you go ahead and book!
    Ros

Hello Lizzie Dripping, that was just one of my nicknames at School! If you click on 'search forums' and type in 'World Cruise 108 days what to pack, there are a couple of comprehensive responses on that thread.

    Regards, Lizzie.

    Oh Lucky lucky Lizzie,
Go for it, take just enough clothing to give a good mix and match. Take in the laundry advice and how I love Ros, she re -wardrobed herself. I've hidden that advice from my Jillie. On our world cruises, we got the available excusions per port of call before we sailed. you can plan what and where. This certainly built our excitement before we were aboard. Putting on weight is a fight between discipline and to hell with it. A nice balance can be achieved because for 90 days over indulgence gets tempered by "I don't fancy that, I'll just have an omelete"
Tell us all about it, and don't think we will not be interested, we will won't we Cruisers?

Hi LIzzie and welcome to the forum NO 90 days is not to long!! we went on the Aurora when we retired we did a world cruise 2008, we had a taxi up and managed 7 suitcases and 2 large bags didn't lift a case until it arrived in the cabin, we managed to put everything away and the staff put our cases in the hold. On PO there are launderettes or laundry service, also you can buy new clothes if you wish at any port T shirts, dresses whatever takes your fancy ect we had the most wonderful experience and PO looked after us so well. We are doing the 2011 cruise again with Aurora, do have a wonderful time and take what ever you want with you and can carry.Yes like Gardeners we look forward to hearing all about your cruise.

    Hi
did not realise there were others from Peterborough on these boards!!!
I share your concerns as I take 2 outfits per day and in October we will be on QM2 for 3 weeks and does anyone know if QM2 has a laundry, although not my idea of a holiday to do the washing!!!

Two outfits a day!! I'm intrigued. How many suitcases do you take and do you cruise from Southampton or fly/cruise. I ask because on one very long holiday [not a cruise admittedly but we stayed and dined in some pretty up market places] we managed with one suitcase each.
