Hi Hannah, welcome. I have cruised quite a few times now and although not a true vegetarian, (i only eat fish and chicken) i have never found any problem in finding something tastey among the many dishes that are served. I have cruised with my friend who is wheat and gluton intolerant and on the last cruise the lady we dined with was a Coeliac sufferer. They had both registered the fact when they booked and were served excellent meals. Bread, biscuits, even down to the gravy, thier needs were catered for and nothing was too much trouble.
Hello Carole, that's reassuring, who did you cruise with?

    Regards Lizzie.

sounds great! do you have any cabins available?
2 Cabins available on our next trip to Holland in July, the crew that came with me last year are all busy next July for some reason !! ( bunch of wimps !! ) though it may have been something to do with the close encounter with a 120,000 ton container ship that we had halfway accross the south west TSS in the north sea !!!
How was I to know that his wake at 25 knots would be so high, and we only smashed the cooker !! everything else was repairable, but for some reason the crew took exception to cold meals for the rest of the trip, I dont know why, it was July !!! But if you fancy a jolly across to Holland, let me know............

    Welcome Hannah

Cabins? Cabins? Soften you up they do, when I were a lad we had to sleep on the deck with only our lifejackets to keep us warm.

    David

Nothing like sleeping under the stars !! Them were the days, mind you, we did it because the old tub we sailed back then may not have been afloat the next morning !!!

Bless! Any chance of a hammock, just to soften the blow?

Here you go, spoiling them again !!! If you ever tried sleeping in a hammock, you would soon realise how hard they are to use,
turn over in your sleep and you have a painfull reunion with the deck !! and if you manage to stay in all night, you wake up feeling like a banana !!!.......Not for me ta..:p;)

I also have never had a problem on a cruise ship whilst travelling with my daughter ~ she has an extremley severe allergy to peanuts which makes her go into anaphlatic shock even if introduced to tiny amounts (I blame it on my emergency cesearian!).

Happily for us all the ships we have sailed on when they have been notified of her allergy have sent the maitre 'd to our table each night with the menu.

She is only really allergic to peanuts (a legume rather than a true nut ) and occasionally has a slight reaction to peas which can be solved by piriton tablets, but they have always pointed out which dishes contain coconut, other nuts etc and on evenings when most of the desserts have had nut sprinkles or they weren't too sure about the provenance she has been provided with plenty of fresh fruit.

Most ships seem to go out of their way to help people who do suffer from intolerences and allergies.

Sorry I have gone off the veggie topic, but I've never seen what is so hard about catering for them, we had a restaurant and always had at least 5 main courses on the menu that were truly vegetarian ~ maybe it's just because there isn't much call for these meals so it's not worth having someone spend the time preparing loads of dishes only to waste them?

We are all atheists about most of the gods that humanity has ever believed in. Some of us just go one god further.

Hi Lizzie. Thomson's was the last cruise taken a few weeks ago and Fred Olsen a while back. As you may or not know, if either of these ladies had eaten any wrong food they could spend days in excruciating pain but they had no worry at all and both thoroughly enjoyed thier holiday knowing they were well catered for. Cruising on the Marco Polo for a couple of days soon with my friend and they have been notified, so we will see how they cater for her.

Hi Hannah - have read some of your blog entries. Wouldn't it be great if there was a way to fold the new blog content into a sub-forum within here as it would give much greater visibility. I did suggest this to Andrew (call center mgr) on Magnifica.

Just seems that hidden on a blog you may not get the feedback or debate about an article you have just spent ages typing out :-)
