    Sophia Loren christens Magnifica

Looking as magnificent as ever, Sophia Loren turned down a trip to the Oscars for a glistening christening ceremony to name MSC's Magnifica.

She cut the ribbon, sending a bottle of champagne crashing into the side. - And luckily it smashed! (It is meant to be bad luck if the bottle remains in tact. This happened to Camilla Parker Bowles when she christened Cunard's Queen Victoria in 2007).

MSC Cruises rounded off the event with a fantastic firework and lights display set to opera music (Italian of course), which lit the sky above the river Elbe....

Thank heavens someone shortened the 2 hour YouTube video to just the 5 minute highlights = OHHHh so thats what those light posts with no lights were for on the balcony on the preview weekend. I though it all looked a bit temporary.

Top of the pops eat your heart out!

An absolutely gorgeous lady. But Magnifica was well and truly christened before this event. But, tradition has to be followed. Happy cruising to all who go on Magnifica. We will, one day. enjoyed it so much. Carol :D
