    Meals on the MSC Opera

Could someone please tell me about chargeable food/meals on the MSC Opera? I've read some posts about certain restaurants charging for food - I'm really confused??? I thought all food was included in the price. I just want to know what's what, so that I don't end up with a big bill at the end of my cruise without realising. I've already paid to upgrade to all-inclusive, do I need to be aware of anything else?
    Hope someone can help.

    Thanks

All cruise ships these days have 'Speciality Restaurants' which are chargeable and offer an alternative dining experience. These are in addition to the 'Free' Restaurants where you pay absolutely nothing.

    Hi s0phie,

Meals in the main restaurants, the buffet during the day and room service for breakfast are included. The buffet of an evening sometimes becomes an extra charge restaurant, room service at any time outside of breakfast hours and snacks in the bars are all chargable extras.

There are also afternoon tea and midnight snacks which are not charged for.

    Thanks for the info.
Are the speciality restaurants clearly posted? I might want to visit them whilst on board, but I want to visit them knowingly, not without realising there will be a charge. Sorry if it seems a stupid question, but it's my first cruise and I'm not really sure what to expect.
    Thanks

We did an MSC cruise and there were 2 speciality resturant one was an excellant chinese and I think the other was a pizza resturant. You have to book the speciality resturants so you will be aware you are being charged they bring you a statement to sign at the end of the meal so you will know how much you have spent. We used the Chinese a few times as we found the main dinning room did't suit us but did'nt use the pizza place. Hope you enjoy your cruise.

Yes the speciality restaurants are normally signposted and there will be info in the daily programme that is left in your cabin the night before.

It is possible to eat more than you should without paying a penny extra whilst onboard ship

You have to book specifically to use the speciality restaurants, so walking in and just sitting down is not really an option.

You will be allocated a set table in the Main Dining room for your 'free' evening meals, and breakfast and lunch should you wish to use it, but most people use the self service restaurant during the day.

MSC Club members, SILVER and above, get 1 complimantary dinner for 2 (per stateroom, and it must be another occupant of the same stateroom) in the themed restaurants.

    From the MSC Club Web-site

The complimentary dinner for two in a Themed Restaurant is only valid once during each cruise and excludes drinks. The club member claiming the complimentary dinner can only extend the invitation to one guest who has to be sharing the same cabin with the club member. The complimentary dinner is subject to availability and is valid on a first come, first served basis. The complimentary dinner is only available in Themed Restaurants and is not valid in any A la Carte Restaurants onboard the MSC Cruises fleet
