Carnival Cruise Lines recently hosted a traditional ceremony to mark a milestone in the construction of Carnival Magic, a new ship due to launch in May 2011.
The special event at the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy, saw a commemorative coin welded to the mast to signify the completion of the vessel's exterior outfitting.
High-profile figures including Carnival's managing director of US sales Mike Julius and business development director Shannon McElroy took part in the ceremony, which dates back to the times of ancient Rome and is thought to provide divine protection for the ship.
With eight months to go until Carnival Magic's maiden voyage, work continues on the cruise liner's interior elements and onboard facilities, such as the RedFrog pub and Cucina del Capitano restaurant.
The vessel will set sail for the first time in Europe next year, operating a series of Mediterranean cruises from May 1st to October 16th before transferring to Galveston, Texas in November.
