the anticipation of getting the tickets ... the friends at work asking " have your tickets arrived yet" when discussing holidays, plus the excitement of opening the envelope containing tickets is all part of the holiday experience.Having to print my own tickets at home is rather deflating.
I really don't want to go over to e tickets.
I have been using e-tickets since 2007 and they are fine you go in the day before print-out your boarding pass then when you get to the airport and
go straight to the luggage option and miss out joining the queue for those who as yet don't have a boarding pass. Similarly if there are computers on the ship print it out there and the same process when you get to your departure airport. If you don't like the idea of having to print-out your boarding pass then join the queue, it is a sort of progress forward but not necessarily for everyone.
E-tickets aren't all that big a problem for me. I usually have a notepad which has details from the minute I start thinking about booking to the pages near the end used as packing list.
My whole booking thing is almost always done on the 'net and as such I write down time and date booked, booking references, etc etc.
I just hate it when you go to print some thing out (The car parking passes we had the other weekend!) and it goes directly over the middle of one page and onto another but you have to display it or you get 7 pages because important info may be on the first page but there are various other details hidden away in next lot that you may possibly need.
I aslso like the ability to have plane ticketing details texted directly to my phone ~ so no paper needed for booking in!
3G mobiles are also good because you don't even need to really print e-mails off any more, just open them up as you need them!
We are all atheists about most of the gods that humanity has ever believed in. Some of us just go one god further.
NONE of the E this E that business has anything to do with making things better for the consumer. It is pure greed trying to squeeze the last drop of blood out of you. It will all end in tears one day when someone finally loads the virus or whatever that brings the whole internet crashing down in flames.
Printing documents out and putting them in an envelope for a man/woman to bring to your house is archaic. E-ticketing is the future. Even pop concerts use it now. I'd rather have my ticket instantly than wait weeks to see if it arrives.
As for the argument "I'd rather have something tangible in my hands", a printed airline ticket is no guarantee of a seat. A hotel confirmation posted to you does not guarantee the hotel has even heard of you.
I must say that I find it rather odd that people partaking on an on-line virtual community can be anti new technology? ;)
I too have my File/Docu folder with every invoice, wine pre payment, mini buses, anything that I have paid in advance for, but the cruise ticket book is becoming a thing of the past thankfully...........Who needs it when you can pre empt all the piddling around at the check in desk with an online SeaPass?
