    Hi Sharon,
I've just looked in the proper Thomson's cruise brochure and it says the Kid's club is 3 to 11 years.

I've never been on the Island Escape, but on the topic of a 12 year old using the gym, I'd say this: as a very experienced gym user (and a former high school headteacher), I'd say that any gym which allowed 12 year olds to use it was neither following appropriate health and safety practice and policy nor was it acting in the child's interests. Even if they say you can let your child use the gym, do not let him/her.
I agree with you totally Bosscat. Yes, youngsters are allowed to use our gym...but only in their own mini suite where the equipment is VERY carefully controlled and adapted for young, growing bodies. No young person under the age of sixteen should be allowed to use adult equipment unless under strict professional guidelines/control which, unless you are willing to pay the going rate for personal training, you won't get in any gym.

Oh Dear, another health & safety freak. Im ex Army PTI, a Football coach, Sailing Inst and have numerous other sports orientated qualifications, Ive taught kids as well as adults, the worse that can happen is he pulls a muscle or decides this is too much like hard work and gives up. If he wants too use the gym and hes allowed let him.

I agree with Morton and Boscat and I will add (as someone who has 2 gym memberships) that children over 16 are allowed in both my gyms HOWEVER yet again a gym surely is an adult space and once again why are we letting children into somewhere which should be adults only!!

Frankly I don't care if they crashed themselves under a pair of dumb bells as long as they are not in my gym!

With regard to unusable coins after a holiday, why is there not a central place at an airport or similar to donate to charity ?

Well I was a ruffty tuffty plumber big deal! Health and safety is far more important than you realize. Just a pulled muscle slight neck injury can lead to years of pain use the equipment by all means but under supervision and after proper training.

    Hi,
Good idea, but perhaps they want to buy it back off us at the airport at an extortionate rate.
I'll let them fight it out over the gym question. I'm allergic to them.
RWG2's got a good point though about the dumbells. :D

    well hello there
    in a BIG nutshell
we were in asda shopping yesterday , and while me hubby was having his glasses altered , my sister was in the holiday shop next door :D
well, turns out they are offering a cruise to the canaries ,for 7 days on the island escape in jan for £499
    shall we go ??

we have never cruised before , so would this be a good start ??
i have read some good and bad reports on here , but i suppose you will get what you pay for

the pool looks smallish .........is it ??
and the ship is pretty "TIRED" i have read
don't get me wrong , i am not expecting the world

just a nice clean room , to put your head and get cleaned up and dressed
    have a swim
maybe an hour in the gym , ( can 12yrs olds use the gym ?? , does anyone know )

the places to be visited look pretty good , as i have never been to any
there will be 4 adults and my nephew who is 12
will he have enough to keep him busy ?? , he loves to swim , but when on the ship , is the entertainment ok , as he is over the kids club age we think
whats the casino like ...i might like a flutter lol
and will the cabin for 3 be ok , that would be for my sister and mum , and my nephew ?? ,
we have a caravan , so used to small spaces :D

as i say , it looks really good on the whole ,

oh how do the drinks work ...is it pay as you go , or is it a card system?? and is it euro's ?? what money will we need when visiting the places

well , many thanks in advance for your help any info is much appreciated
    sharon (39) :p
You have received detailed replies to specific questions, so I'll try not to repeat previous comments.

There is no such thing as a typical cruise, because there are significant differences between the different cruise lines. And you must decide whether the itinerary goes to places you want to visit.

You should also consider in general terms, what type of holiday you prefer. Island Escape is designed to appeal to the UK package holiday market and the concept is similar to Ocean Village, which is "the cruise line for people who don't do cruises". The restaurant is buffet style and there is no need to wear formal clothes at mealtimes. You can purchase shore excursions at the ports of call and the overall package includes some entertainment.

Island Escape does not pretend to offer luxury cruising - and that is reflected in the price. However, you will probably be very happy, if your idea of an ideal family holiday is a traditional 3* or 4* hotel package in a Mediterranean or Canary Island resort. On the other hand, you might be disappointed, if you normally stay in 5* hotels and require formal dining with waiter service and cordon bleu food.

Incidentally, the price is competitive and I believe your package includes flights to and from Tenerife. A fly-cruise can be better than sailing from a UK port, because you will be able to spend the entire week in the Canary Islands - and escape the winter weather in the UK.

I agree with you here Bob. I wouldn't fancy a few days cruising down through the Bay of Biscay at this time of year, no matter how big and modern RCI's Independence of the seas and similar ships might be.

Get out there in just over 4 hours and start enjoying the holiday.

thank you all very much for the very helpful info

but on the other hand , please all cool off on the gym question !!
i do not wish a little sentence to cause such upset ........ if you think its a topic deserving more input ..then please feel free to start a new thread

i do not like confrontation , but will .......if forced
please leave it there , it was simply a question , and it won't even probably be an issue , as there sounds like there is too many other things to keep us occupied , like eating , drinking , and sun tannin and entering the dancing competition to win our next free cruise :D

ok thank you .sorry for any concern ....but please not leave it at that or .........take it elsewhere THANK YOU
    #sharon
