PS Of course it does occur to me that I must compare the benefits for each type of policy but some I can reject out of hand because they simply do not offer what I require which is an annual policy!

Many thanks to all who have posted here. In particular, thanks to Lizzie for having started my thought process with her posting details of various insurance companies. I have already started getting quotes from a few and the disparity is astounding BUT, one in particular actually quotes for INCLUDING existing conditions as well as excluding. The other two I have got so far have not offered either/or (only excluding existing condition offered)and indeed have not offered the facility of an annual policy even though that was what I requested. On the quote which offered both options, the lower (excluding existing) was over 50% cheaper than the insurer I have used for the past two years! The existing illness inclusive quote was only 26% more expensive than without if I used my existing insurer - so you know I will almost certainly be changing insurers! I intend to carry on and get some more quotations including my bank! I will also take all of cour comments on board - they are gratefully received! Thank you all!
Glad that the list I compiled was of help, I will be using it myself soon, not looking forward to the task. Especially as with most Insurers everything is black/white instead of reality, all shades of grey! They just want to fit us all in boxes, which just complicate the whole issue. Could you let me know the name of the Insurer that was 50% cheaper/26% cheaper please. It's worth a go!

Many thanks in anticipation. Lizzie
