.......IMO having the only casual british cruise ship is to much of a opportunity to muck up!.

Why spend money on it? There will be plenty of ships up for sale with the amount of new builds that are coming through. I agree there is a market for a cheapy 'Casual' cruise ship, but don't forget OV1 & OV2 were both front line ships from the P&O and Princess stables.
I for one am always game for a bargain as a 'second' cruise, but looking at the pictures I wouldn't go on if it were free!

Question = Safety Of Life At Sea

Surely when SOLAS kicks in fer real
this aging vessel will be one of the first to succumb?

    Alang awaits!

That programme did for cruising what 'Airline' has done for flying!
People who knew that I had done a lot of cruising said, "What on earth do you see in it"? "It looks like Woolworths Caf on a Saturday morning, piles of dirty plates and nowhere to sit".

I'd spend the next ten minutes trying to convince them that this was not the norm on other cruise lines!
Yes, I've had the self same thing said to me!

Nope. It must have passed its stability tests and the new regulations on fire resistance? otherwise they would not be spending £4 million on it soon.

A interesting question, just how much does it cost to charter a cruise ship? Is it millions per year?

The age of the hull is not so important as long as it passes the appropriate examinations and think forward 25 years, what will the present day mega ships look like then? Apparently Oasis is already starting to rust!.

Apparently Oasis is already starting to rust!.
To be fair, Oasis is made of steel
and as long as steel is exposed to salt water and an outdoor marine environment generally
it's going to start oxidizing within a few days!

Oasis' steel plates had a fine surface coating of ferrous oxide on them
before they even started assembling her sections, one by one!!

-as is the case with all steel plates destined for all vessels, big or small! ;)

Sealing surfaces with paint, and maintaining that sealant
..is what it's all about. ;)
If you look closely enough, you'll find little rust spots on all ships,
    - even your favourite....unless she's made of a non-ferrous metal?

I remember reading somewhere someone complaining because the ship was being constantly painted. I would be worried if it wasn't. Or the complaint that the real teak promenade deck wasn't varnished, now that is a real good idea

Remember folks, all that is between you and the deep blue briney is thin steel and a load of paint

Most average consumers are quite clueless
as to how systems (and maintenance systems) work.

They have these notions and ideas in their heads
and are then surprised to find reality quite different from Their Reality.

Happens all the time. Unrealistic Expectations.
Major cause of many a "ruined" cruise
    :D

I would not waste my time looking at any website or advertising for the Island Escape. It is dreadful. Rusty, tiny cabins, and badly run. The 'theatre' is not big enough for the amount of passengers .... so everybody dashes from eating to get a seat. They open the casino doors to let you walk through there after a meal, but if you are seated at the other end you have no chance. The pool area is also crowded and noisy. The price of alcohol is high when you see them loading all the duty free on board. All in all my worst experience cruising and definitely keep away from it .... at any price!!

High drink prices ? Compared to the supermarket yes - compared to hotels and other ships - quite the opposite
