    Excursion adive-the med

We are off to the med on our first cruise going to corsica, sardinia, rome, barcelona. What are the best excursions on these and where on shore is worth visiting. Looking for a scenic place to visit when docked at rome - not going into rome city.
Thanks for the help, know very little about cruising.

    Hello Mrs Doc

Barcelona is a city famous for its unusual architecture as I am sure you will discover . We stayed only one night on a hotel on Las Ramblas prior to taking a cruise to Venice.

Las Ramblas is a long tree lined avenue with various shops, flower stalls, cafes, and street entertainers who are unbelievable. One that stayed in mind was a macabre bluish head on a platter who blew kisses to passers by from purple lips !

Of course there is far more to see and I wish we had had more time . Beware of pickpockets , especially at night.

    Enjoy your cruise .

The Mediterranean is just full of places 'worth visiting'. You can almost get off the boat and travel probably no more than 20 miles in any direction and you'll come across somewhere which is very scenic or historical or both. The pavement cafés, bars and restaurants throughout the Med are delightful.
You can't miss out Rome - even if you've been many times before. Rome is one of the best cities in the world. Turn every corner and history is staring you in the face. You've got all the history you want plus the convenience and facilities of a modern city all in one.
Barcelona is also a wonderful city. The Gaudi buildings are quite unique. Take the Hop-On/Hop-Off bus too see as much as possible in a day.
    Enjoy.

    cheers
    Harvey

The Port Bus dropped us off close to Columbus' statue
-perched on a tall column(helpful landmark when returning to the bus)
and from there we crossed the road/s to La Rambla, a most interesting stroll.

Hiya Mrs Doc, welcome to the joy of cruising! Having done the Rome trips twice, on our next visit decided to just stay in Civitavecchia, not a very intresting place in itself, but we had a couple of hours on a very nice beach just a short walk from where the coach from the ship dropped us off, then of course had to have a drink in a pleasant cafe on the front( well it would be rude not to)! all in all we had good day so in my opinion don't be put off just because it says it is just a stopping off point for Rome, although I do agree, you really ought to see Rome!! especially St Peter's it's amazing.Open top tour buses already mentioned are a great way to see Barcelona, Corsica a nice easy place to do on your own, again another good beach a short walk from the ship. Not been to Sardinia so can't comment on that. When walking about anywhere I always have a cross body bag. then everything's in front of me. Hope this has been helpful to you, have a super cruise, when are you going and on which ship? Regards Irene.
