Hi, I've just flown back from Dubai with Emirates and they flew from Terminal 3.
not sure about hotels though...
Was really impressed with Emirates planes... very organised, very comfortable and the best in-flight entertainment I've come across. Food wasn't bad either...
Enjoy

Luxury
We stayed at the Crowne Plaza Festival City , it was sensational . Wonderful views and luxury plus in every way. From there you can take an airconditoned walk to Festival City shopping for all you could need , top brands in clothing , Marks and Spencers if you want a bargain, many restaurants.
There are two Crowne Plaza hotels in Dubai so make sure you choose the Festival City one which is
15 minutes from the airport.
If you like jewellery or simply beautiful things take time to see the new Gold Souk with its' magnificent decor, midnight blue star studded curved ceilings . ( My son laughed and said it looked like Disneyland but I loved it ! )
A touch of luxury is always welcome.

We flew out from Gatwick North terminal into Dubai Airport Terminal 3... it's thier new one (not sure how new) but very nice, clean and well organised.
You don't NEED local currency in Dubai but I found it helped with Taxi's etc as not everyone knew the euro conversion rate so it just saves a bit of hassle.

Hi Whisker...the last few times we've stayed at Gatwick we've got good prices at the Gatwick Travelodge (£10 on one occasion) and booked the car in at BCP (Charlwood Road, Lowfield heath).... which is about a mile away...and has the bus transfers to both terminals running every few minutes.
This is closer than most of the hotels with parking and can work out cheaper.
