    Wink Royal Caribbean cards

OK -here are two recent finds...

    Access to the Bridge?

This is a staff card of some sort -it has zero information on it
    other than what you see!

On the reverse is a magnetic stripe, and that's it!
If you don't know what door it fits, it's utterly useless!

    .................................................. .......

    Concierge Club

    This one's a bit more useful! :D

    Security Reasons - Cards.

Yes we had to hand ours in when we left Brilliance of the Seas in February....when I queried it they said it was for 'security reasons' !!
    Hi Morris,

I read an interesting article on 'fraud', some while ago. it pointed out that many Hotels store all of your Data regarding 'purchases etc..' on their computer ( obvious!!) But, that data is transmitted via your 'card' & in some cases (depending on the technology) transactions, card no, payment details etc.. are easily obtained from 'your card'.

Hence, as I work away a lot and have to use Hotels, I shred my cards afterwards, just in case. That maybe what 'Brilliance' meant by 'security'?! Cruise companies operate similar systems.

They can have our cruise cards, I still have the rest of the 'memorabilia'!! Though,I still have & will always keep the cards, they didn't take from us - our first on QE2.!

    Regards, Lizzie

Everyone's fridge has magnets on it.

My fridge has very strong magnets on it
-extracted from dead computer hard drives. ;)

ONE pass over any magnetic stripe with one of those babies
and your personal data is toast
but I hope you'd do the same before sending me any cards..

All you need to do is demagnetize the stripe on the back of the card.
Just pass your average fridge magnet back and forth, twice or thrice
and save your card as a memento -or for Aplmac

Save your scissors for cloth and paper!

    Hi Aplmac,

I will stick to my 'shredding machine-which 'gobbles up' hotel cards in seconds!! So, I don't need scissors!

If I have any unwanted cruise cards in future, will send them to you, after de-magnetizing via the fridge!! Regards Lizzie.

Let me know if you need Fred Olsen cards. Do you collect one per ship or one per cruise line?

    Exclamation Variation is the key.

I certainly do need Fred Olsen cards, Dave.
Haven't got any, don't even know what they look like!
Would appreciate any you can send me.

The basis of any collection is variation.
Variation in color, what's written on them, design changes(major and minor)
    - almost anything that makes them different from one another.

RCI cards sometimes come with different colour stickers on them
    meaning...I'm not sure what!
RCI cards issued to under-18 kids have combinations of holes in them
There are all sorts of odd variations to be had, even within one cruise line's cards!

You ask one per ship or one per cruise line...
One per ship is more like it
but also one per design variation within what the cruise line has issued
    especially over the years
(they're always changing background colour, font size,
..where the directional arrows are placed, etc!)

In short I can use anything you will send, even duplicates!
I have an American guy living in Michigan who I exchange cards with
and that's where any duplicates come in very handy!
He's been at it longer than I have, and offers me all sorts of odd stuff!

I'll try to PM you, OK?-
but if you're on Skype, look for me as Aplmac, in country Barbados(where else?)

No problem - here's a sample but I've also got some plain, boring ones...

Those FO cards are quite nice!
but even the plain boring ones would be welcome.

It's nice to have a variety
..and older cards are always a bit more desirable
because they'll never issue that old design/style again.

    P.S.
    Nothing
could be more boring that this card from Royal Clipper..

At least it also includes the ship's tel.no.!

As a matter of interest, I contacted Fred Olsen to find out what data they store on their cards. I was assured that only name and cabin number are stored.
