Berlitz Guide to Cruising 2010
Have now received the latest edition of this tome and have to express some dismay at he blatant errors which are becoming a regular feature and simple rehash of last year's narrative. Some brief examples:-
Ocean Princess - name change correct but totally ignores its new world-wide schedules, it is currently in Asia. Opening comments are 'ideal size for operating in Tahiti and Pacific Ocean Islands.' It no longer goes anywhere near that area and those comments are a simple rehash.
Azura - In the facts column it states 'Cabins for one person - 0' yet in the comments on 'Accomodation' ' Most welcome are 18 single-occupancy cabins - a first for P&O.'
Island Escape - In the review of Cruise Lines at the outset reference is made to 'Island Cruises' being reduced to one ship in 2009 but 'Island Escape' is totally omitted from the review of individual ships.
These are just some simple mistakes I have spotted in an early scan of the book. It does not bode well for the thoroughness of the preparation and editing process.
Am I 'nit-picking' or is Mr Ward now coasting (or cruising) ?

It's not just you most regular readers have noticed these errors, omissions and down right lies plus his rehashes over the years.
How can ships that had 4* 4/5 years ago still have the same rating now?

Hi krb and welcome to the forum.
No you're not nit picking. I'm not known for my observational skills but I did notice that Island Escape is not in the latest edition. I only looked it up because the ship has had so many bad reviews of late. Apparently, it's currently undergoing a refurb so must be continuing it's cruising life. I wondered if maybe it's going to be renamed.

My question is do people pay for the Berlitz guide year after year?? I have purchaced one and had the last 3 free with cruise.co.uk.
There is not much difference in any off them that you cant research on the internet.

I received the 2009 edition for posting a review on my first cruise. My daughter bought me the 2010 edtion, not knowing that I could get one free with my next review. I just use it for a quick reference to size and passenger numbers etc. Treat it as a rough guide.

Grant,
Itwill arrive if you wrote a review, but like you say it has so many errors in in that if you have 2009 then it is basically the same
Even if you send Mr Ward an eamil to point out the errors they never seem to be corrected in the next issue.
