    Why do books sunbathe?

A person takes a sun lounger and places it in a sunny spot. Next, they carefully spread out a towel on the lounger and place a book in the middle of the towel. Then they walk away. Some hours later they return and remove the book and the towel.

I can understand that a damp towel will dry nicely if left in the sun, but what good does it do the book?

I've watched people perform this procedure so many times that I feel there has to be a sensible explanation.

After the book has absorbed its share of the sun for half an hour, I am sure it could do with a nice dip in the pool. I would be more than happy to assist with ensuring it has a good cool down in the water, while I lay on its sunbed and make sure no one else takes its place.

The true sun bed hogger has been identified. I always thought is was a fellow passenger! After a 1 hour period these books and towels should be removed. The books placed in the library and the towel sent for washing. If they were on a RCI cruise, they should then be charged $20 for not returning their towel.

What about a carding system ~ after quarter of an hour the waiters/ waitresses put out an orange card, quarter of an hour later a red and 5 mins after everything removed and sent to (as mentioned) library, lost property or the wash basket. Charge a reclaim fee any electronics or personal items but if you can find your book in the library you can have it for free.

half an hour is plenty long enough for most obvious trips ~ i.e. the loo, picking kiddies up from kids club and getting them into pool gear, grabbing a brew etc....

We are all atheists about most of the gods that humanity has ever believed in. Some of us just go one god further.

    Well done - great idea!

Hopefully Someone-In-Charge will read this and take note!

There has to be a solution to this silly problem of inconsiderate mis-usage

hope they apply a high factor waterproof suntan lotion to the book before leaving it for so long in the sun and so that it doesn't get burned after it's 'dip' in the pool :D
