    Entertainment P&O

Went back on Ventura this year with family having been with friends last year. ALL the production shows were the same! Same old tribute acts, some of the same comedians WITH THE SAME ACTS and Jokes. Even the after dinner 'speaker' Cheryl Baker was the same. Told the production shows are on a 3 YEAR cycle. Cruise lines want repeat business yet treat returners with contempt. Is it the same with other ships/lines? Are people forewarned, or should have I anticipated it?

I've not been on the same ship twice so I'm not sure if this is the norm.
I pity the performers if that is the case
I also pity the passengers if this is the case and they are not aware of it.
mind you if you cruised twice in the same season then I would suspect it would be the same.

I will be interested in the replies you get

Production Shows are very expensive to set up and perform. The ones on RCCL take up to 10 months to put together. They have become prohibitive for many cruise lines on this basis.
But surveys onboard have asked that Caberet style entertainment, similar to what you have mentioned are preferd. The future suggest that Production shows will be a chargeable item,as maybe Dining will be.

No, I dont think so, but VirginAir do. And Stellios seems to have sold his ship, so he's out as well.

I don't generally cruise on a ship twice, in fact I like to change lines too. However, I know that some 'production' shows run for a few years.

No Ryan Air dont do cruises as yet but who knows.Onboard entertainment can change nightly if the Company has many ships sailing in that particular area, and entertainers are moved from ship to ship.American companys are a good example of this when sailing in the Caribean. But at one time P&O havent got the number of ships in that particular area to do this.

I have read recently that NCL are building a ship without the main Dining room,in its place will be many small Restaurants as they are on land giving people a better choice of venue every night.Needless to say their will be an extra charge for this facility.Their will also be a regular Buffet at no extra charge.Cruise lines in general are not making profit in line with investement, coupled with the fact that cruisers today are paying the same price for cabins and less in some cases as were seen in the early 80s.Of course many add ons are prevailent on all ships. But if prices doubled Cruising is still the best value for money as apposed to land based holidays in similar surroundings.

As things stand right now Cruise Lines make little or no profit until the Balcony range comes into play.Things have been so good for a long time and still are when Cruising make the best of it while you can.
