So, lets ask Cruisedot. to get rid of the ranking system and go back to Junior member, Member, Senior member. That should solve the problem. Everyone happy? Then we can all only go on the sites we wish. Carol

Hi Carol, I dont think that reverting to the old system will realy make that much differance to the quality of the posts, lets face it a lot of us just enjoy the communuty spirit of chatting about anything and everything we like.
That's the fun side of the forum - which is what the ranking system was all about. It certainly wont make me post any less and I'm sure you wont either, we just enjoy it for what it is and along the way we benefit from others Knowledge.. Regards David.

No.
Let's ask cruisedot to get rid of the ranking system
and just leave it at just numbers of posts, with no assoc. rank to the numbers.
No Junior Member, Senior Member, Executive Member, Exalted Member
because that too is a ranking system.
It's the old hierarchical structure that so appeals.
Cut it out entirely.

I don't see anything wrong in members enjoying discussions, laughs etc in the off-topic section - it helps people develop relationships and can make their visits to the forum more enjoyable. I see it as being like the dining room table, where you meet your fellow cruisers of an evening and talk about anything you like, sharing in-jokes sometimes - you certainly don't have a rule at sea that dinner conversation must only be about the cruise itself.
Afternoon H. The off topic section is brilliant. You are right, not everything has got to be about cruise lines and the ships. But, its this ranking system (Fun at first) But the comments are getting more and more distasteful. I personally think it would be a good idea to scrap it. I dont mind in the slightest.Lets all be on a level playing field and carry on doing what we all love best, sharing our experiences, jokes, future plans. We ought to start a new topic about this ranking system and see who's for and against scrapping it. Carol
I'm with you David whether there are rankings or not I shall still post, yes I can be serious and talk ships ect, but nothing wrong with a bit of banter and a laugh now and then, to brighten the day.
I've not posted as frequently as before - mainly because there is too much drivel. When a thread gets lively there are calls for it be declared a dead thread! Why? It's the lively threads which get the most views. The drivel threads lag way behind. For instance - most threads in which our dear friend Gordon participates get loads of views and loads of comments - brilliant - because they are lively threads. He can be controversial and more power to him for being so. We need more like him to liven debate. Some of the drivel has been really banal and, certainly from my point of view, off-putting.
One exception to the boring drivel has been the very successful 'Spartan Line' thread. It was quite fun - well done Spartan. Other drivel threads have been gushy and lovey dovey.
cheers
Harvey
Most posters to this thread are regular and constant in their activity. I tend to post only when I feel I have something relevant and (hopefully) interesting to contribute. It does seem that rather too many posts have been solely for the purpose of raising status in the ranking system.
Like Dave I tend to check out the forum several times daily and usually enjoy reading recent threads.
I have become concerned by the number of posters who only seem to want to get an invite, from Cruise Dot, to a ship event. They are under the impression that activity on the Forum is a good starting point - and it may well be - but why post banal, bland comments? If I could decide who gets invitations I would choose quality over quantity, unless, of course, the quantity was always quality too.
Now I am sure some of you will not agree, so shoot me down in flames - isn't that what the forum is about - just do it nicely
