    Hi All
One of the problems i see with ranking system + number of posts is.
If a new poster comes on looking for advice will they take more notice of someone with 1000 posts than of someone who has 20.
Does not necessarily equate that 1000 is more wise/knowledgeable than 20.

Good point jc but I've always looked for advice on the questions/answers page. There are lots of keen cruisers that answer the questions and yet spend very little time, if any on the forum.

Well I have absolutely no idea what all this is about. As you can tell I have only recently started using this part of the site. I thought this was going to be about cruise ships!!! Obviously not.........

Don't be disheartened Linda. There's lots of topics on cruising but you just have to sort out the bits that interest you.
The ranking system is all about how many posts you've made. You start as a ship's cat then progress to Deck Hand and on to other 'handles'. You will see by the regulars on the site how many posts they've made and what ranking they've been given. It's all just a bit of fun really and would probably be just as much fun, without the rankings.

    Rank or Invites?

I am not bothered by 'rank' at all! However, is it the temptation of a higher rank, that might be the problem or is it the thought (as someone else has said on another thread) that more posts, might mean more invites?

    Lizzie.

Hi Lizzie, might mean more invites surely not, I thought were randomly selected , and It was just the luck of the draw when I was invited on to the Eclipse, I only have 230 posts so it can't be ,when there are posters on site with over a 1000 posts.Surely they would get the invites before me..Perhaps the Administrators could answer this question?

Hi cornishgirl, those with 1,000 + posts have had invites onto other ships, so have I and many others. As to exactly how it's worked out, then as you say that would be for cruise dot to clarify.

    Regards, Lizzie.

If they must keep the divisive ranking system;which to my mind is somewhat pointless, perhaps it should be based on the "number of words, rather than the number of posts".This method of course would demote many and probably leave even the senior officers answerable to The Secretary for The Navy,Lord Gordon Rhys...mmmmmm.Stan
Listen I am having enough problems already with lengthy pieces without you giving an incentive for more pieces to be added. I would sooner that we had an abundance of short meaningless drivel than be subjected to oceans of it.

I try in the main to write a reasonable amount but sometimes revert to a short piece so that is what I would advocate,.......but then I would wouldn't I? . ....Neil
