Ranking System ~ Are you for or Against it?

As Carol (Mumford) has just mentioned maybe we need a poll to decide whether or not to scrap the ranking system.

I for one would not mind at all if the ranking system was scrapped, along with the old system of member, senior member, etc.

What are your thoughts on this matter?

We are all atheists about most of the gods that humanity has ever believed in. Some of us just go one god further.

Shelledpea I really don't mind as I said previously, it makes no difference I shall post as before , it seems strange to me that we need to be serious all the time.

Rank holds a certain attraction, I am sure, for some people on the Forum but as far as I am concerned I find no fascination for it.

I am also sure that some of what is written is done with the aim of rising higher up the scale and this often makes for poor copy. I much prefer posts of substance although here again there are certain posts which are too long for me.

So yes, have a poll if you want to and find out what the real feeling is. I am sure that some will vote agin it simply because it might look a bit egotistical to vote for it, or perhaps that's too controvertial. ....Neil

Regrettably - I think that the ranking system has been the cause of the drivel posts to purely to increase the number of posts. Everyone can post the odd silly/drivel post but there are far too many such posts to, in my view, the detriment of the forum. The thinking behind the ranking systems was good - a bit of fun - but unfortunately I feel it has been abused.

    cheers

    Ranking

If they must keep the divisive ranking system;which to my mind is somewhat pointless, perhaps it should be based on the "number of words, rather than the number of posts".This method of course would demote many and probably leave even the senior officers answerable to The Secretary for The Navy,Lord Gordon Rhys...mmmmmm.Stan

It really doesn't mean anything. As already said it started as a bit of fun but what difference does it actually make, anyone can see the number of posts you have made on the top corner. I will continue to post, sometimes drivel and sometimes more seriously but if the ranking disappeared from under my name I probably wouldn't have even noticed.Carol

    Hi All
One of the problems i see with ranking system + number of posts is.
If a new poster comes on looking for advice will they take more notice of someone with 1000 posts than of someone who has 20.
Does not necessarily equate that 1000 is more wise/knowledgeable than 20.

I'm hooked on this site and couldn't care less about the ranking system. We all know who are the 'senior' members anyway. We also know who gives out valuable advice, who is good for a laugh etc. I say ditch the ranking system. Do they bother with it on the 'other' forum?

I think if you whittled away most peoples non-cruising posts from the totals most of us would be left with a figure that is extremely low (~ think chocolate, chips, hairdressers,) But there may be quite a bit of "Drivel" as some people term it but its part of the whole experience on here and how you get to know people.
