    Maps designed to confuse

After experiencing destination maps as provided by several cruise lines, and finding them all wanting, I have come to the conclusion that they are deliberately made innacurate so that the users will get lost and in future will not dare to venture out except on an organised excursion. Has anyone found a cruise line that provides good maps?

However don't despair as the Tourist Authorities at most ports provide much better maps free usually on the quayside, and if not at a nearby Tourist Office.

I agree that some cruise lines do provide pretty poor maps. I go online before I leave home to check where the tourist offices are in the ports of call and if they are close you can go and pick up maps there. On Silversea a rep from the tourist board comes on board for a couple of hours and has proper printed maps.

It's all in the cruise preparation.

Totally with you on this one.

I research every port and work out what I would most like to do and go onboard with a file of information that certainly includes maps of towns, areas and even special places. It's part of a holiday that starts long before I go. .....Neil

that is where the excursion brochures come in handy - even if you have no intention of booking an organised tour....

the port descriptions and lists of placs covered in the tours in a good guide to what's worth investigating further prior to sailing

Me too Neil, a significant part of my cruising budget is taken up by the cost of paper and ink from my printer.
As a thought, would it be a good idea for cruise ship libraries to include a folder for passenger's information to be left at the end of the cruise.

If they wrote top on them would it help? :D

You can buy maps of most city's in a good bookshop or better still just download them and print

All depends on the Ship Staff as to the quality and wanting to have happy customers.
Though that is called service! :p

If anything they give you a quick feel but the ones supplied by local tourists groups and bookstores and local business plus internet are better.
