I think it is unclear to people, when the are asked to sigh the health declaration prior to boarding, what will happen to them next. I think people say they are healthy because they fear they will not be allowed to board & travel. This goes for simple ailments like coughs & colds too. Perhaps the forms/cruise line should explain more about what will happen next if passengers say they are unwell before boarding.

This is an excellent point. By the time passengers reach the cruise terminal the holiday is paid for, the cases are packed, excited, can't wait to get on the main holiday of the year (for most). So when presented with a photocopied piece of A5 which is the last hurdle between them and boarding their dream trip, are they REALLY going to answer in a way that may jeopardize that? All for what they may think is a bit of pre-holiday upset stomach?

There has to be a different way to police this versus l this inaccurate self declaration which fails to convey the potential risks of non-disclosure.....

If you are on a fly cruise and have just spent 9+ hours flying to somewhere in the back of beyond would YOU write on the form that you are feeling dodgy?

OK sir, you can't board, b****r off and come back when you are well.

It should be a requirement that the cruise line make it perfectly clear in advance what will happen. Of course they won't in case it costs them a SINGLE booking!

    Me being cynical again

totally agree if the cruise company were to say you can come aboard but must stay in your cabin for 48 hours or until you are well it might take some of the sting out of being economical with the truth .Gra

    norovirus

we have recently cruised and unfortunately caught ' the bug ' from observations from this trip and also cruises last year we have formed the opinion that whilst the lines and crew do their utmost to prevent infection it is the passengers themselves (or rather a few of them) that cause all the problems. we have noticed passengers entering the eating areas without using the hand wash. passengers going to the public area toilets and not washing their hands. also one lady having the nerve to announce at the reception desk that she still had 'the runs ' and last year we observed a passenger handling the bread rolls at the buffet.

Sorry Dickie I disagree, the cruise lines are not doing their utmost to prevent infection.
Put a bloke on the door of the restaurants with a baseball bat. Anyone one who doesn't use the handwash, throw them overboard!
I was on the latest state of the art ship 8 weeks ago, handwash stations either side of the entrances to the eateries, 40% of people didn't 'need' to use them, why, because no one was there to insist they did.

As for handling the bread rolls, we seem happy to pick up a pair of tongs that a thousand or more people have also handled and think we're safe!

It would be probably better if you stabbed the roll with your fork or used a spoon and fork combination to capture the beast. Or as I suggested elsewhere the cruise lines should ignore the bean counters and buy a couple of thousand pairs of tongs per ship and give every passenger a pair of freshly sterilised ones each time they enter the buffet.

One good thing apparently is that once we get this damn virus ( I had it on the Costa Serena in January and confined myself to my cabin feeling dreadful) is that we have a three month immunity to the bug. My daughter caught it from the infants she teaches last week and I was fine. Apparently going round the UK like a plaque so probably Brits who take it on board this winter although any confined space has its perils bug wise.

I'm just wondering how long it will be before someone on here refers to you as a moron. As for me, I think it's a windup and leave it at that. Somehow, I don't think you will be with us for long.
