Hi Flora, yes you are quite right, rinsing wasn't the right word to use, it just popped into my head as an alternative to 'washing' Soap and water is the recommended procedure and personally I like to finish with a squirt of gel which, although drying, does make me feel clean..Carol

I realised you would know this, but it amazes me the amount of ladies -[ I can only talk about the ladies ]-------who come out of the toilet and rinse the tips of their fingers !! as if that is going to do any good !
    regards Flora x

I spotted a review earlier today recently written by a passenger who had picked up the Norovirus. A number of comments had been added, one of which I copy here:-

"We were also on Queen Victoria at the same time. I contracted the bug despite being ultra careful about handwashing etc.Cunard were not good at handling the situation. We changed ships in Fort Lauderdale to the Grand Princess I didn't feel well until about 2 days before we were due to come home.It was a holiday from hell".

The comment, of course, beggars belief and indeed had already attracted a somewhat scornful comment from one of this Forum's members. This is the members comment:-

"How interesting that you joined "another ship" so shortly after you had been hit by the N.virus. Were you not asked to complete a public health questionnaire before boarding the ship at F.lauderdale ? The one that says ' To assist us in preventing the spread of Communicable Disease during your cruise, we require you to answer the following questions' ( you did before you boarded Cunard and you would have done before you boarded Princess) Which box did you tick for question (2) 'within the last few days, have you or any person listed above developed any symptoms of diarrhoea or vomiting' ? Yes - NO It then asks for your signature to the questions and goes onto say ' I certify that the above declaration is true and correct and that any dishonest answers may have serious health implications'. It is easy to put the blame onto the individual cruise companies when there is an outbreak, when in fact this sort of virus is often brought onto the ship by the guest".

I just find it amazing that the writer of the original comment even had the nerve to write it, let alone admit it. Is it any wonder this virus is a problem on cruise ships?

    Any other views?
It may or may not be relevant to Richard's post at the start of this topic but I've just returned yesterday from a 14 day cruise on Grand Princess where a serious outbreak of Norovirus was reported to the passengers on Wednesday 5th May.

We were not told how many people actually had the virus but there was evidence of many staterooms being cleaned and the figures being talked about on the grapevine were 200+. There were still new cases being reported on the day before disembarkation and 'code red'? precautions were in place until the end of the cruise yesterday morning, 8th May.

Did this ship sail again last night with the restrictions for new passengers in the dining areas, buffet and tea stations etc. or was it 'business as usual' for the new cruisers? If so I'm wondering if they have been told of this very recent outbreak.

How many times do we read that the virus is brought onto the ship by passengers and not the other way around but one has to wonder just how long it takes to eliminate the contamination? I certainly don't think conditions would have changed between the last passenger leaving and the first coming on yesterday.

Was this Norovirus outbreak reported on here? I can't see any mention but may have missed it when looking today.

Not good to have an outbreak it may have come on during a port call it takes a couple of days to get a hold
Even more reason to be careful what you eat when ashore :o
As for her sailing I don't think they would have cancelled it,they may just keep at red and see how it goes :o

No question they would have cancelled Spartan.

Just read Sophiesnores post about a 'text from Princess' re delayed check-in. Obviously with no reason given. It certainly wasn't delayed coming in or going back out so they must have been doing a 'big' clean-up. Fingers crossed all's well for those aboard.

I was on a Holland America ship in 2008. On their questionnaire they indicated that no one would be refused boarding, without regard to how the questions were answered. I was healthy at the time so the statement was not tested.
