Topic: Taking a 15 month old on a cruise with P&O or any other cruise company

We are hoping to go on a cruise next year with P&O and my Daughter and her Husband will be coming with us and will be bringing my 15 month old Granddaughter with them. Has anyone travelled on any of the P&O ships with a child of similar age, if so how did you find the facilities, dining, cabins and the night nursery? (if used) Or has anyone travelled with another cruise company that has great children facilities? Any feedback would be appreciated, thank you.

Look at RCCL "Independence of the Seas" perfect for your situation.

RCCL isn't that great for under 3s as the facilities are limited for this age group; no kids club (although do have some strange Fisher Price play sessions) and no night nursery. However, we travelled with my son when he was 2 and he did love the mini golf, arcade, non stop free ice-cream in the buffet, and the food more generally. He also loved the shows as well, but we did have to take him out and about with us in the evening (wasn't actually a problem as we just got into the routine of a long afternoon sleep to keep him going).

We are going with P&O next month and we have chosen them as they offer a night nursery for babies which we think will work well with my daughter (10 months). We also have stuff booked with Cunard and they offer nanny care for babies aged 1+. My husband and I went on QV and thought childcare facilities looked excellent for young children (but I think most children aged about 9+ would be a bit bored). It's the last year of being able to afford to cruise (my son starts school next year) so we're making the most of it!

Would recommend P&O either Oceana or Ventura as both have come highly recommended to us for taking our grandchildren with us when we go next year.

We have been on both without our children, and passengers we have spoken with think highly of the childrens facilities and feel totaly safe leaving their kids there.

P & O are very good with children & toddlers, the night nurseries are well organised. If you leave the little one, you / your daughter etc will be asked to settle them down before you leave and will be given a pager to take with you.

If the little one wakes and needs changing etc. they will page you to come and sort him/her out.

The childrens teas at 5pm -ish have a selection of childrens favourites including finger foods, small sandwiches and jellies.

Young children under 3 are allowed to use the childrens clubs and toys if accompanied by a parent or guardian ~ good to get them out of the mid day sun.

The toddler pools are on gated decks and have sun shades over them, there are also netted areas to play ball and these sometimes have ride on toys in them aswell.

I don't think he will mind that there is no rock climbing wall for a few years yet :D and baby change there is a cabin for that :o

but P&O everytime for infants

Would highly recommend P&O for young babies. Night nursery facility is great - opens 6pm til late (cant remember if there is a fee if you go too far into the early hours of the morning). Its many years since I cruised with a baby but back then they also provided you with all your baby needs - sterilising equipment etc and you could pre order your favourite baby food which they would keep to one side for you in the dining room. Including formula milk and baby juices. I really dont know if they still offer this service but its worth trying to find out - they had a special services division for this. You provided them with a list and it had to be anything that boots stocked they would provide foc.

We have travelled with RCI 4 times with my son, 9 months, 18 months, 21 months and 2 1/2 years. We thought the facilites were great, especially the H2O zone with the splash pool for very young babies. The partnership with Crayola and Fisher Price both work really well as they have all the large toys which toddlers are familiar with but are too large to take with you. For those who want baby sitting, this is available in your own cabin for baby's 1 year +. They also have battery powered toy sessions in the basketball court at set times throughout the cruise. Food was never a problem, the Windjammer and Sorrento's providing the majority of our requirements. In the main dining room the staff were always making a fuss (as were many other passengers), making sure he was well catered for. This year we are trying 'my family time dining'. This allows us to dine in the MDR but my son will enjoy (we hope) and faster service, allowing the Adventure Ocean staff to meet him at the main entrance after 45 minutes where he can return to the fun with the Ocean Staff. All round we have enjoyed good cruises with RCI
