    Empty Deck

Took a cruise on the Costa Luminosa to the Emirates in April, my hasband and I [the two "oldies" + wheelchairs!] our daughter,3 teenage grand daughters and teenage grandson[cousin]
Great ship,[[bit noisy at meal times - but good fun also] Good tour itinery at each port of call that suited all the family. But oh so HOT!!
Shouldn't really complain about that as that is part of the holiday but when you have a daughter who wants to see EVERYTHING!! well -just a bit exhausting .
Just one thing we could not fathom about the ship -why- on the promade deck no deck chairs? If I can fathom out how to put on a photo will let you see what I mean.
Not everyone wants to be "crammed" in lines sunning it all the time on the upper sun decks - or do they !!!!
Dont get me wrong we are all seasoned cruisers and love it, but in that heat it would have suited us fine.

Given the fact the promenade is the access point to the lifeboats it was probably for SOLAS (safety of live at sea) reasons. (Was the prom particularly narrow?) The prom was probably too shady for good sunbathing due to the life boats.

Some ships with wide promenades do have some chairs but they are often underused.

Do I understand you would have liked chairs in the shade on the promenade deck? If so , why not make a request for some?

Yes I suppose we could have but at the time as is usual - we were the only ones about -the whole deck to ourselves!! and as I said - Oh so Hot and the deck was plenty wide enough to accommodate some sort of seating [there was the odd storage chest thats all- not geared for comfort !!]
I suppose it comes with "age" and coloured memories of films on old liners with all the deck chairs !!!!!
Just one of those things we have noted on many a cruise - that we often had empty lower promenade decks to ourselves - especially early evening.

not a solas requirement for clear decks. On p&o the prom deck has lots of chairs up against the bulkhead and also up against the rails and still plenty of room for those marathon walkers.

On the 'older' P&O ships the promenade decks have chairs and loungers aplenty at both the inside and outside (against the rails)and they are always full (on the sunny side that is) with loads of space to stroll around the deck as well.

It's one of my favourite places on sea days (weather permitting) - in a chair, feet on the rails, book and a Pims in hand --- Lovely.

I also like to stroll around the Promenade deck - usually 3 or 4 laps to a mile. Unfortunately, on most new ships you cannot walk all the way round - there is either a dead end or a flight of stairs at one or both ends.

For these reasons, plus some others, the Aurora is my favourite ship.

    cheers
    Harvey

At last - someone who knows what I mean !! -joking - was it the Royal Princess that had that lovely walk arround freedom? We loved that ship - much prefere the smaller ships than the giants of today [again - dare I say it - an "age " related thing !!] having said that even the grand children say the same - except of course - they do rather go for the pool area Wide vision screen TV !!
