    Hi Stan,

You are obviously an experienced cruiser, and you say you prefer tables for 8. I understand the friendships that can be made chatting round the table, but as we will be first time cruisers, in our fifties, on our honeymoon next July, do you think a quiet table for 2 would be more appropriate, and are there many of these on a Thomson ship?

Hi Castle,I am promoting you to be on our table. You sound a bit like myself(several different careers/experiences/wives??)Cheers Stan and May..Red or White??
Hi Stan, that is most accommodating of you and I would be honoured to sit with you. With regards to Red or White, I am teetotal on medical grounds (I said I was a boring old fart) but I shall be with you in spirit. I had my last alcoholic drink in 1964!!!!

The lack of alcohol hasn't affected my sense of humour. I've always had this twisted sense of humour. :D

Hi Bladette,it's lovely when 1st time cruisers join this site so welcome. You are absolutely right in your observation that firm and lasting friendships are made around cruising tables..When you enter the dining room on an evening for your first meal have a word with the Maitre D and tell him that you don't want to sit in the "Swingers Area" as this could spoil your honeymoon. Also beware the so-called Dance Hosts in the Main Ballroom,as these men (they usually have a badge and a lecherous look) are only too eager to take advantage of the inexperienced cruiser, especially one who is filled with innocent joy ,as Iam sure you both will be.Having said all this,I am sure you will have an amazing honeymoon, best wishes to you both.Stan and May.;););)

JIM'S OK - if only he uses his hidden talents!

Until 2 cruises ago, we might also have included JIM BOWEN in our worst table companions list, however he was on our ship - and was not there as a cabaret entertainer, but joined a late-night jazz band (who incidentally were excellent, particularly the double bass player). Jim had hidden talents which we had never credited him with - good jazz singer and excellent sax player! Quite unexpected versatility which he should use more rather than just getting involved in the inane TV shows for which he is famous.
We had new respect for this guy. ;)

    River cruise gives table freedom

Have just returned from a River Cruise with an American run company.
Yes, Brits were well outnumbered, but the fellow American travellers (and just one Canadian couple) proved to be delightful company and the "free seating" for meals, which is possible on a smaller vessel, enabled us to meet a good variety of other passengers. We ended up with a varying group of about 16 people, from which we shall probably keep in touch with at least six, and made 2 "special" new friends with several interests in common.

invite some people from this forum :D my hubbie and I would be happy to join you if 1. my boss would give me the time off and 2. someone else paid for it, any offers? :p
if you don't like your table companions the ask to be moved to another table. look for a table thats talking and laughing a lot and has some empty seats and ask to be moved there. on our first cruise with 2 friends, we had new table mates on the 2nd week when we asked them why they answered that there was a lot of talking and laughing comming from our table and wanted to join a fun table!!!
by the way they were great fun themselves.

Great advice,Isabell. We have noticed that our tables are nearly always the last to leave at the end of the 2nd sitting(whilst bearing mind the time constraints on the waiters). We have always seen this as a mark of a successful evening.Am I right, or is it people just being too polite to leave???.Stan
