Interesting company, the couple on our table were thoroughly obnoxious to the extent that they even asked the head waiter what country he came from & why "people like you" are here taking our jobs, I suppose you find that acceptable? it was after this we were asked if we wanted to move. The point I was trying to make was when we were in the position of being inexperienced in dining like this we kept quiet & tried to fit in, we had consideration for others & the staff serving us.

    Phil Mac....
It appeared that your post was implying my view was a snobbish one, nothing could be further from the truth, sorry if I misinterpreted.

I was on first sitting on a table of 8 and there was two sisters that always turned up late. (They were told if this continued that they would have to be put on second sitting). One day one of them went to another table and started to mess up a bowl of flowers. The waiter asked what she was doing. She replied "I have just decided that the flowers are not right". When asked if she had permission she replied yes. When the people the flowers had been provided for turn up there was uproar and the ship had to provide new flowers for the people.

    eiquette faux pas

When booking for one of our cruises, we opted for 2nd sitting dining but found it a bit late, so asked if we could change to 1st, which was arranged for us.The next night we were seated on a 6 table with a husband, wife and 17yr old daughter.Started chatting as you do but all the husband kept talking about was how much the jewellery the ladies were wearing had cost him online and how much the real price was etc, etc. Then he went on to say they were all inclusive and that he only had to click his fingers and could have anything he wanted. When it came to ordering our meals my husband did not want the mash that came as set and asked," could he please have chips instead".No problem so far until the bowl of chips was set beside OH's plate and then the GENT?, reached across the empty chair space between them and grabbed a handful of chips and put them on his own plate. His wife corrected him but OH and i could not face going back and sharing a table with him for the rest of the holiday.

I don't know, what I would have done with that gentlemen, if it would have happened to my husband or me....:mad: how impolite.... maybe he should have taken the "wet way home" (swim) also "all inclusive" :p
You did the right choice not to dine with those people again... (if I understood correct). Hopefully you were more lucky with the next table you got.... These fellows really should get a "how to behave correctly"-training... Children get smacked on the hads, if they do something like that, but adults... hmmmm.

If you smack children in this part of the EU you are going to wake up the next morning in jail.................. so glad to hear its still acceptable in Deutschland.

But I also don't ever remember dining on a cruiseship where they served chips, sounds good to me though they never taste the same unless you eat them out of a newspaper.
    Pass the ketchup matey!
Well... if typing too fast, things can happen... :o I meant smacking on the hand, not the head .... hmmmpfff.... Sorry for presenting myself as an agressive fellow... no, smacking on the head - no way, I wouldn't like it either... - the hands, yes, ok....

I think the little sods should be roundly flogged & the chip stealer should have got a fork through his hand!! Chair hogs should walk the plank & those not dressing up on formal nights should be flogged... then made to walk the plank.

Sadly smacking on the hands is also very much against the law here and you WILL be arrested for doing it here, now that we are in the wonderful European Union which all us Brits like sooooo much.
Even outside the 3-mile-zone? (depending on the cruiseline... then it's the Bahamas or so....;)) and whilst defending your own property? Hmmmmm.

my daughter is a waitress while studying at uni. well, when she worked in Glasgow Hilton she was serving at a posh 'do' and was serving Lorraine Kelly, from the telly, and dropped stuffed peppers all over her. :o

don't want to work, just want to cruise.
