The reason we prefer not to sit with others is two fold. I don't get to eat with my husband for the rest of the year due to work committments, so for 2 weeks it would be nice to sit together. The other reason is when you pay around £2000 for a 2 week holiday you should be able to sit with whoever you choose.
We enjoyed our table for 8 on the first RCL. We have requested a table for 2 for the very same reasons as youself on our later cruises. Only for the last 3 cruises have we been given one. BUT! we have ended up only about 1 foot away from the next table. So in actual fact it was a split table for 8 or 10. Fortunately our next table companions were great. Have eaten in the speciallity restaurants and had a table for 2, but because we got on so well with our next door pals, loved meeting up the next night to swap stories. But agree, it is nice just sometimes to have a little time to spend together. Carol.

I am not sure what the secret is we didnt get a table for 2 on RCI, but were allocated one on Oriana 08 Xmas Cruise. We go on the Arcadia in July and booked it last year on the first day it was available to Portunus Members. Upon booking I requested a table for 2 but had the usual "cant be guaranteed, first come first served " answer

My travel agent then pointed out to the booking clerk that given the very early booking we should have one. I also declined to give an alternative table size and will be e mailing the restaurant manager 2 weeks beforehand re our request- so fingers crossed we should have one.

We are not anti social and enjoy meeting and chatting to other passengers in the various venues but we do prefer to eat alone. I'll let you know how we fare! (sorry about the pun)

We've always enjoyed sharing tables and have met some smashing people, several of whom we've stayed in touch with. On Azamara recently, however, we always had a table for two (it's 'dine when you like' on Azamara) and, in fact, mostly got exactly the table we wanted each time. I have to say we enjoyed it just as much.

I agree, too much of modern life is spent in isolation of neighbours and stranges so every time I get asked "What size table?".... "The bigger the better" is my response - have met a some fascintaing people at the cruising dinner table"

We like a table for two maybe thats boring but there are plenty opportunities to meet others around the pool; in the casino or simlpy having a drink or during a wander around the ship. We have met more than enough who have said wish we had done the same, so tables of 4;6 or 8 could be excellent but they can also be a real problem and spoil your cruise. A couple we met sitting with grandmother and grandson plus 4 others spoilt their cruise but we helped as we got on well with them I found a table for 4 and we both enjoyed the chatter.

I only every asked for a table for two once and I never got one. Never bother asking anymore. When I book a cruise I always ask for a table for eight and I have never really been disappointed with our dinner companions, even though we didn't know any of them. We always seem to get people from all walks of life who are interesting with their topics of conversation.

My tables for 2 usually come by default.

We always cruise with the children and rather than inflict them on others who may not be as happy as we are to see our little darlings, I always request tables for 4.

But as the children usually eat early and then go to club, the cabin or off with friends we end up with a table for 2.

I'd love to be more sociable and have a larger table ~ can't wait till they leave home /I kick them out!:D

We are all atheists about most of the gods that humanity has ever believed in. Some of us just go one god further.

The first time S an I went on holiday on our own after years of family holidays it was such a shock to the system, we looked at each other and said what shall we do. We were so used to doing things as a family we had forgotten what it was like to go on holiday on our own. It took a couple of days to sort ourselves out and realise we could do what we wanted when we wanted and we haven't looked back since.;)
