I suspect you are right. I note that Jameria of Dubai is new to this forum and it was her/his first post on the forum. Is 'someone' watching? Spooky!!
It looks that way & that's what I thought when I first saw the post far reaching secret service ~ that's me on Dubai's black list!

We are all atheists about most of the gods that humanity has ever believed in. Some of us just go one god further.

We will see the forum being hacked and brought down next. Come to think of it, how much of the stuff on these sites is really kosher?

As I mentioned earlier that wasn't the first time I'd heard those accusations....I remember seeing a television article either on Newsnight or Dispatches or some such programme where an undercover reporter had gone into the accommodation areas of the Indian workforce and actually filmed the conditions and interviewed some of the workers and it was truly awful.
Of course the ordinary public in the city are not going to hear of these goings on are they?
As for the Ethiopian maid going to the consulate....she probably did not know where that was or how to get there...

There was a case in London a few years ago so if it can happen here it can happen anywhere at least our police will try to help.

This is a truly shocking article. Is it true? I assumed it was, except that I found the part where a servant spoke about being abused by an Australian family odd. It sounded just sounded unlikely culturally that Australian (or British come to that) people would routinely treat staff working in the home like that. In some other cultures however it does happen.

    Yeah good on you...

For the record I'm not new at all, this is just the first time that such one sided drivel has inspired me to write something.

And for the other joker, if I was secret service I would have called myself Thomas.

Don't make the assumption that all expats are au fait with how staff should be treated.

It's not a matter of how they should be treated but British and Australian employers do not behave like that at all, regardless of where the staff are employed, at home or in the office.

    Physical abuse is not permitted.

Of course in an ideal world all employers should treat their staff well but there are reports of abuse from all over the world, including the UK. Abuse isn't just physical and can take many forms.

As in all aspects of sensational news, these are the ones you will hear about and not the 99.9% who are treating their staff well.
