I hardly dare post again, after the wine remark.....anyway, she turned north east, and is now going north across the mouth of the Solway. It's possibly right about having to keep to a certain speed, as she's only doing 13 knots.

Ships especially cruise ships have to follow certain rules re waste disposal .For the UK ships this is MARPOL and ships cannot discharge wast water overboard,it must be kept til the ship reaches land.
Container ships and tankers do take on and discharge ballast water so as to sort out their draft and trim, but even that is strictly regulated now.

So the ship did not go round the Isle of Man, just turned around and went back up.
Very similar to what we did on Ventura to maintain minimum speed although the ship has been doing 15knots so its not that.
Brian
It could even be just to waste time as the cost of the berth would be higher for staying longer or they are waiting for the tide by sailing in the figure of 8 it would increase the sea time between the two ports
You need to maintain speed to have steerage you can't just stop a cruise ship in the middle of a sea lane it would drift with only a small breeze
The answer came like a flash- of course....there's NO CASINO in the 12 mile limit.....this idling 20 miles off the IOM, till midnight, means the gambling can start!!!
Sorted!:D:p;)

Gosh Jo, the Casino, should have been obvious. Wish you'd worked it out sooner, thought I'd have to get the bins out to take a trip down the coast and see what I could see from there.:D
easy when you know how!

Right- back on AIS, watching the Queen Victoria coming out of Belfast.
