Me too! Mine was a CB750 Super Sport - one of the first bikes with alloy wheels. I had a Watsonian sidecar on it for a while .
My Brother had a 750 Matchless with the Norton Atlas engine and a black stibe chair happy days
Great down the Saltbox, Thorton Heath pond and Chelsea Bridge

I know we're all different, and I'm not being judgmental - honestly. Each to their own. It's just a question of balance. I love ships too. I love being on ships. But I go on cruises to see the world. I'm anticipating the obvious response - that is, isn't it nicer to see the world in more luxury? Perhaps, but then again, perhaps not. For one thing, money is an issue for us. If we could cruise to Greenland on a tatty ship for the same price as a QM2 Atlantic crossing, we'd choose Greenland. But there's another reason too: It's like the motorbike versus the van. The motorbike's more real and it's more fun, and it can take me to places the van can't reach!

So, as an ex-teacher, I'll leave you with your homework: 'The destination is more important than the ship. Discuss.'
    I agree 100%

Before I ever set foot on a ship my land based holidays where taken for the destination too.

So many people holiday "for the sun". How many people have you ever met who trot off to the same hotel in the same corner of Spain/Greece/Turkey each year. They drink English beer and watch Sky Sports in some "Ye Olde English Pubbe" and dine on pie, mash and gravy. They are paying for the sunshine because you can't guarantee it in the average UK summer.

There's so much to see in this world. You can find hotels in Africa, the Far East, north and south America, Asia, you name it... not just in Europe. And some of their beers and food is amazing!

We try to make a point of not going to the same place in consecutive years. And cruising offers the same opportunities. There are some great itineraries out there but - just like kipping in some cheap hotel in Mombasa - you have to be prepared to sail on some less than luxurious vessels. But think of the savings!

I,m with all the explorers out there ,we book cruises to see the world ,yes we like PO but the itinerary has to be right. A fortnights cruising takes you to so many ports you wouldn't be able to achieve on land. As for less than exciting ships as mentioned by Aplmac,Dave likes Fred Olsen, Aplmac apparently likes a state of the art ship, one man's meat is another one's poison. Yes we did all the camping caravan's and tents, also the bikes Norton Dominator, triumph Bonnevilles and Matchless in my time, everything has it's time my OH has sold his last bike just recently , and I think he still regrets it.
Hi Marie...surely not the Dommy with the Featherbed Frame;you sure no how to arouse a man's passion!I had to get around on a Tiger110!Salivating Stan.:D

When I retired, my kids expressed concern that I may sit at home and get bored. They suggested I do some voluntary work in a local school. I was horrified and had to explain that schools run on timetables and if I did volunteer, they would expect me there on certain days at certain times. I think they now realise that their fears were unfounded. I'm too busy spending their inheritance to vegitate.

I can't understand the people who don't want to retire because they'll "be bored". I barely have time to come to work and it does interfere with so many other things. If I didn't go to work I'd have a tidy house (?) a beautiful garden (?) time to knit, sew, read (definitely) and spend more time at our local Riding for the Disabled centre where I'm a trustee and very part time volunteer. Oh, and I'd take advantage of cruise offers at every opportunity. Judith

In a sense, that's sort of obvious.
I mean... you didn't do them for the fabulous aeroplane ride, did you.

Possibly for the train ride, but not for the plane trip..

I wish my wife would let me have another motorbike :o
I used to have a Honda 750 four travelled all over the place on it camping, Elephant run, Karlo treffen to name a few.
Imagine taking your bike on a cruise you could really plan some good DIY excursions and be pretty sure of parking and getting back to the ship on time :D
    Hi Spartan/Dave
Have you ever been to IOM TT,you can even have a 4hr cruise to get there.
I've been going for over 30yrs,luckily wifes Brother + Sister live there.
A mate of mine has a Bonneville which he takes every year.
When he comes back he strips it down, greases it and put in garage until next year, then cleans it,builds it back up + off he goes again.
Will be there again in June, but flying.

[QUOTE=Dave, Whitstable;40043]Aplmac, you know how to push the right buttons don't you? - Any dissing (popular teenage idiom possibly unknown in Barbados) of Fred Olsen and I come rushing to defend them!

Me too Dave, but for me it's not about the colour of the ceiling..hello!!.or the size of the ship, and while the destinations matter(not Caribean,as most of them are so similar); It's the People Stupid(a Bill Clinton idiom) that Make My Day(a Clint Eastwood idiom),and we have found that Fred Olsen cruisers are the salt of the earth. We always come home from cruising with Fred, feeling that we have had, that difficult word to describe....FUN.Satisfied Stan.:D

You might be deliberately missing the point but I went on to say some people only go away to 'follow the sun' whereas I only go somewhere for the destination. So, as obvious as it might seem to you, *some* people do not choose a land based holiday 'for the destination'.

On the other hand, thanks for pointing out my typo
    ;)
