    Naval Superstitions!

Heard one today! That it's unlucky to take a box of Swan matches onboard, because the swan resembles an Albatross! It would be interesting to hear some more if anyone knows any? Carol

Another one Carol , It's unlucky to whistle on a ship, why? because it supposed to bring up the wind. I suppose that one dates back to the old sailing ships with their acres of sail.

    Wish You'd Never Asked!

According to Military Superstition, Women were forbidden from sailing as they brought bad luck by angering the sea gods and bring on bad weather and rough seas. Women were sometimes tossed overboard to appease the gods.

So where does that leave us

The saying goes that the ships crew wore a gold earring so that it paid for a burial if anything happened to them.

I thought that bodies just got chucked overboard (ceremoniously, of course).
