world cruise insurance desperate for help

I am having real problems in finding travel insurance for a world cruise that will cover us for 99 days, with my husband being 81 at time of travel. The cruise company is asking as much as it would cost for a 17 night cruise. I don't have insurance with my bank or credit card as has been suggested by some people. I seem to be coming up against a brick wall in that I have tried lots of companies but they either won't cover up to 99 days, or else over age 80. Just hoping that somebody else out there has come up against this problem and can point me in the right direction.

yep - Axa will only cover over 80 for up to 31 days. I even went to the "go compare" website and they couldn't find one quote for me.

Have you tried Saga? Not sure how they are with longer periods but they specialise in cover for older folk.

Hi Madeleine. We too have booked a world cruise for 2013 and are having problems with insurance. We will be aged 58 and 60 on the day of departure. I consider ourselves very fortunate that neither of us has any health issues, infact neither of us has visited our GP for approx 5 years. The cheapest quote we have received to date is £360.00 (for both of us) and that is through Lloyds Bank and is linked to our bank account. BUT (and it is a big But) this will only give us £5000.00p each pre cruise cancellation cover. This would be grossly inadequate should we be unfortunate, for example, to break a leg and be unable to travel prior to departure. The departure date of the cruise is early January 2013 but the balance payment has to be made late September 2012. I would like peace of mind knowing that we are fully covered during the interim 3+ months. Again we are very fortunate that we have never submitted a claim from any travel insurance during our lifetime. I did find one company that would cover the full cost of the cruise but their premium was £2777.00p again for both of us. Price compare sites would not give us a quote, along with several others, most saying that that the length of time was too long. We are travelling with another couple but to date we have found nothing suitable. I hope that someboy somewhere on this forum may have the answer we are all looking for. Until then we will keep on trawling various websites and hope to hit the jackpot. Good luck in your quest.

I hope this link will assist you - I stumbled across Staysure when I was having difficulty getting insured due to medical conditions. Instead of doing it online may I suggest 'phoning them because I have found that much easier as the online form does not always fit your category. Hope this helps - I think you have to accept it is going to be expensive - but well worth it to enjoy your cruise. Good luck.

You may find it is VERY expensive. My cousin and partner did a world cruise on Aurora 2 or 3 years ago. Both in 70's with medical conditions, it cost them around £6000 to get cover.

LLoyds premier bank account actually insures you up to the age of 81years, we have done WC and with my OHce, although they use AXA, they give you 45 days free insurance a year but for more cover such as the WC you must phone their offices, it cost us CG
