    Western Med ports

Is it just me or is everyone else fed up with itineraries that just go to the same old Western Med ports every time?

I was on a cruise that called in at Ajaccio last year which made a pleasant change - a beautiful place to stop but few ships go there. I would love to visit moew small ports like that.

Can anyone recommend any cruise lines that go a little off the (well) beaten track or any other less popular ports that are worth a visit?

    Cruising my way through life!

    Sue

Some of the South American stops on small ships which included Cartagena, Manta and a port which I can't remember the name but you can buy a tour on the Lutta? railway. This originally went all the way to Central America. It is only used now when ships call and take you up into the mountains and stop at a church were they have dancing and a small stall selling trinklets etc. These are on the Pacific side.

No It's not just you HA, we feel the same. In fact, having seen so much of the Med ports from land based hols, I've not yet found a Med cruise that appeals.

Probably depends which western med ports you mean? I never tire of the South of France, so many places to go, from Cannes, Nice or Villefranche. I have recently posted some pictures of St Paul De Vence and Eze on the 'Cannes' thread, super places. Plus there are loads more worth visiting.

I don't like Gibraltar! Well, apart from the duty frees! But I could visit Lisbon, Barcelona, & Naples for Capri, again and again! Just to mention a few.

But I guess we are all different! Which is what makes life and cruising so interesting!

    Regards, Lizzie.

I love Santa Margharita, next door to Portofino. Nicer and less busy

Yes, we enjoyed Cartagena very much, although the cruise line printed out the details for the wrong Cartagena, and some people were looking for the gold mines! The ship docks almost in the town, and it seemed to be different to the "Costas" type seaside towns of Spain.
Also appreciated Santa Margharita, with a pleasant walk into Portofino.
On that cruise, last Oct, P&O were trialling new trips from Livorno and Civvi, saying quite openly that many people were not using the trips because they'd done them all before. We took an excellent one into Tuscarnia, with tea at a farmhouse.
