    Smuggling booze?

    Hello,

we have just booked our first cruise with Royal Caribbean having only cruised with P&O previously. We have always taken a wine box with us onto the P&O ships so that we can have a pre dinner drink in our cabin and this has never been a problem, will we be able to do the same on Independence of the Seas?

    Any advice gratefully appreciated,

    Yoho

    Jo

    Hi Jo,

No sorry, you wont be able to! RCI will take it from you and return it on the last day of the cruise!

Also, you are not allowed to take bottles on board at Ports, unless you accept that they will again, keep them to the end!

As for smuggling.............. there has been lots of debate on here and other forums. I think that one is your call!

    Regards, Lizzie.

    Jo,

To be honest we don't bother smuggling anything on in our cases, its just not worth the hassle. We also enjoy a pre-dinner drink in our cabin whilst we get ready for dinner. We just either go to one of the bars and buy a bottle of wine or order it via room service. If we don't finish it, room attendant will put it in an ice bucket for us. No problems.

    I totally agree Vinny.
Prices for wines are dearer on the ships, but spirits are good value. Only tip I could offer is take some mixers. I should imagine that would be allowed?

Oh dear, back to P&O for us next time I fear, thought this cruise was cheap - that's obviously how they make up the difference!!!!

    For medicinal/anti-motion-sickness purposes
I routinely throw a six-pack of Canada Dry ginger ale in my suitcase
and never had a problem with that..

It is obvious from the title of your thread you know about a total ban on RCI and what you are really asking is whether you can smuggle booze on board.

I see that you are going to revert to P & O next time but I also assume that this will only be so if they keep the same policies as they have at present and because they have already started changes that is by no means certain.

You are still able to drink in your cabin and many things are better with RCI so why not wait until you have cruised rather than make decisions about next time? ....Neil

Actually Neil I was completely unaware of the policy, the title was intended as a joke!!! Feel the joke's backfired somewhat...

    Hello Jo

What a shame that you didn't join or at least read this forum before booking your cruise. There have been lots of threads on here covering taking alcohol on board and the other shock you will receive - the price of drinks on RCI compared to P & O.

As Neil suggested, try not to pre-judge and accept that this aspect will be different to P & O. Now that more lines are departing from the UK, we have the opportunity to try different experiences and there may be things about RCI that you prefer. If not, there's P & O, Celebrity, Princess, Cunard, Fred Olsen etc etc..

Hope you enjoy your RCI cruise.
