Yes it all comes back to me know, I can see the three of them standing in a line, I think it was Peter Cooke and the two ronnies in the line up. Great sketch. :D

    Cool Takes awhile but...

Once or twice a year, it becomes necessary for me to write a Sterling cheque
to some business place in the UK
put it in the local Post, wait a week for it to get to the UK
hopefully have its safe arrival confirmed by email, wait for it to clear
and then wait another 2 weeks or so for the books -or whatever- to arrive at Barbados!

That's how I paid for these!

Yes it's a long drawn-out process for us, four thousand miles away from Blightey
but that's life in the Colonies, innit?!

They'd be very silly to do away with cheques entirely.

I haven't written a cheque for a couple of years now, but am worried about the notion that all payments might have to be made electronically in future. It sounds like the fraudsters' dream come true.

I think that they are trialing 'Fingerprint Recognition' at a school somewhere in the north of England as we speak, and are also considering retina scans too. Although how this will work for telephone orders I dont know, no doubt it will be sorted. Probably voice recognition.

When I started internet banking way back when Moses was a lad (well at least 1997) there was quite a surge with Barclays trialing a system which is now known as PINsentry.

We used a system very similar to this for securely connecting to my companies' internal systems.

Why hasn't this caught on with home shopping? It seems like a very secure system

It is more tham likely that cheques will be phased out according to some banks in the news recently, how do you feel about that.

    .
I prefer to use my debit card for every day stuff and my credit card for larger purchases. However, my dad is 92 and has mild dementia. He understands cheques and can still sign them which gives him a feeling that he is managing his finances. Also I can get cash for him as he can't get to the bank himself. He would not cope with a bit of plastic and a PIN. As usual the banks consider what is best for them and not their customers.

I've written three cheques out in the last ten days, must be a record in these days of card payments.
