Operator Windstar Cruises has announced that it is launching a new Mediterranean itinerary which spends three nights in Monaco, the playground of the rich and famous.

The new seven-night cruise will launch from Civitavecchia near Rome and finish up in Nice, TravelWeekly reports.

Its visit to Monaco will coincide with the world-famous grand prix in Monte Carlo, and passengers can catch a glimpse of the jet set world of Formula One.

For an extra $2,700 (£1,646) they will be able to get even closer with a Grand Prix package which provides entry to restricted areas of the track during time trials and track-side seats for the race itself, as well as an exclusive cocktail party and dinner.

Windstar's vessel Wind Surf will be used for the cruise, with a capacity of just over 300. It will also be calling into Cannes during the city's glamourous film festival

The Monaco grand prix is widely considered the highlight of the Formula One calendar, and was won this year by the UK's Jenson Button.
