Q: Hello fellow cruisers - I have a question that I cant reason my way through? So I look to all for views on what can be a very difficult and sometimes embarrassing problem.
It seems that on all cruises that there are what I call "compulsive moaners", you know the sort of people I mean ..
"The cabins were bigger on the Bounty", and ..
"The crew were more friendly on the Tirpitz", and
"The food was better on the Victory", etc ...
They seem to regard meal times as a useful opportunity to air these views, sometimes many times over, and also seek a degree of sympathy from their fellow diners. If you are on freedom type dining you are lucky and can avoid them, but if you are on a fixed table .......... You are doomed !!!
When we, and people like us go on a cruise we like to make our own minds up about service levels and if we have a problem we sort it, and do not burden other people with it. Why spoil other peoples day for the sake of a winge ?? If I genuinely saw something I didn’t like and it affected other people I would do "something" at the appropriate time, but I would not bore the pants of my fellow diners with moans.
If anyone recognises me from the comments made, I can say that without exception (well 2 people on one boat in 2007 tried very hard to rattle my cage) all my fellow diners have been an absolute pleasure to meet and great company.
So my question is ........ If you like moaning why not try a stay at home holiday?
And finally if you sit and moan on my table, please excuse me while I ignore you, I'm on holiday.

Obviously some of the moaning rubs off, but i will take some tablets for it. And perhaps a relaxing cruise later. Happy cruising !!!!!!!!!!!!

I am not sure that this isn't an example of that which you want to avoid. Lighten up and eat your pudding. ... Neil

Now, now, now, Jonesy, you know rants are not allowed! I do know where your coming from though. We always travel in a family & friends group of 6, 8, or even 10 & book a table accordingly. If the 'We moan at everything brigade' joined us, they'd be the one requesting a move, as our philosophy on cruising is, 'If you can't have a good time on a cruise ship' it's now't to do with cold spuds/slow service or overpriced drinks, it's about the people your with & little to do with your last cruise, no matter how much you overpaid/underpaid or scrimped & saved for.
