Q:
Hi. Husband and I are doing stay and cruise 2nd Sept. 1st week Majorca 2nd on OV 2. Really excited about it. We are over 50, and a bit put off by reports of it being like Butlins. Is this true? What about the trips, which are the best places to "do our own thing". We are doing Villas and vinos. Can we take drinks into our cabin?
We are 1st time cruisers, any advice would be welcome. Thanks

We are both mid 50's and really have enjoyed our 4 cruises with Ocean Villiage, but certainly do prefer the original OV as you can eat outside if you wish. It is casual, relaxing - friendly staff - lovely large cabins - food is pretty reasonable and of good choice. After a P&O Ventura cruise in May I would not go again on a very large ship - and really can't wait to re book an OV cruise when the Tunisia & Rome ports have been discontinued (if ever) as we enjoy the ship but not the boring same ports each year - so hope OV make some good changes for 2010. Most of all IF our jobs are secure of course to make the trip. !

We have just arrived back from Ocean Village 2 and have told my friends it was like a floating Haven Holiday Camp, so i was quite amused when I saw this question. BUT, does that make it a bad thing, I think not. We enjoyed ourselves tremendously, and can't wait to book again. The ship has it's bad points, such as, no room around the pool as it is full of kids enjoing their daytime fun activities with the OV2 staff (pink coats), the entertainment is scattered all around the ship and requires you to relocate several times to get the best of it (if you can get a seat!). If you like your meals with a little more occasion, then you can eat in La Luna for practically a fiver each. Good top nosh too, or alternatively, The Bistro for £15, which comes with it's own TV Chef in James Martin, he was on board during our stay. Bar prices are much cheaper than your average holiday camp too, although be prepared for a week of Stella Artois or Becks, because they are the only draught lagers on draught. On the whole, VG Tick Ocean Village - See you next year.

Ocean Village 2 offer a relaxed cruise, if thats what you want. If you want formal you will pay the extra. We thoroughly enjoyed the Med in June this year, only fault, the shore trips where expensive. We have cruised with Royal Caribbean they had formal and informal.
Next cruise is with Carnival in 2 weeks to Cayman Islands I hope this is as good as other two.

Hi
Thats a load of rubbish. We have done Ocean Village 3 times and Ocean Village 2 once. We had a fab time each time and believe me I wont put up with rubbish. We have just been on the Oceana P&O and thought that this may be better than Ocean Village butit wasn't, they were both as good as one an other. I would not hesitate to go on Ocean Village again.

I've been on OV twice and OV2 in the Med and although it can get a bit loud, it's not too bad. Don't expect anything formal though, it really is a t-shirt and shorts cruise. I think you'll enjoy it.

We have justcome off OC2 and yes it is like butlins or haven and very very noisey all over the ship in the evenings. The staff just think that they have to turn the volume of the taped music as high as is possible. There is not a quet place anywhere on the ship and any complaints are answered that the music has to be turned higher and higher during the evening as all the bars are late night venues. It was agood cruise ruined by very inexperienced cruise staff. We shall never go on OV2 again
