Q: We are cruising the Baltic mid July - we have only booked shore excursions in St Petersburg - hoping to do our own thing in Copenhagen, Helsinki, Wernemunde, Tallin and Amsterdam. There are 9 in my party. Will we be OK walking ashore in the above, or hiring a minibus where walking is not an option because of distance?

COPENHAGEN There are 2 cruise piers in Copenhagen and neither is near the downtown. Langeline is the most used and the Little Mermaid is a short walk from the pier. You walk past some shops / bars and you will come to The Little mermaid statue, then past a yacht marina and up to The Rosenburg Palace and onto Nyehawn. HELSINKI - When you get off the ship, there will be a Helsinki tourist office (mini bus) set up. They can give you directions to walk through the port to get to the bus stop (less than a 10 min walk). Bus 16 will go in to town, then take a right on Esplanade (the central walking area will be on your left). At the end of that road you can get off (market vendors straight ahead and harbor). That is where the 3T & 3B trams pickup - these do circular routes of the city. WARNEMUNDE - you are right in town and right next to the train station if you want to catch a train to Rostock, TALLINN Maybe 15-20 minutes walk from cruise terminal to the main square. Tallinn is definitely one place that you can go on your own AMSTERDAM - 12 min walk along the front to the main station and town. I suggest you read ports of call section on boards dot cruise critic dot com for lots of suggestions of how to diy in port and what to see.
