Q: Hello! My husband & I are going to book the Transatlantic crossing from Southampton to New York (on the QM2), and stay extra days in NYC in April next year...first of all; is this a good time of year? Plus, could anyone confirm what side of the ship do you first see the Statue of Liberty come into view, on the approach to NYC??
Finally, any idea on the 'rules' for tipping on the QM2?
Thank you; 40's couple from Somerset.

We sailed into New York in April this year on QE2 docking in Manhatten. Thick fog when we arrived but the Statue of Liberty was just seen in the fog. QM2 docks in Brooklyn so you are a bit further away but you should still be able to seee it on the port side. The fog lifted later in the morning and the day we had there was quite pleasant. The first two days sailing out from New York to UK was thick fog and quite cold. Tipping is automatic around $10 per person perday, but varies depending on your cabin. See Cunard website
