We had a suite on our last cruise on Arcadia and I suppose you could say we paid more in tips (by choice) because we tipped our cabin steward and our butler. I cannot see how or why you think it should be enforced that people in higher grade cabins should pay more. Where would you draw the line? Should people with a balcony pay more than those with an outside cabin? Should those with an outside cabin pay more than those with an inside cabin? It's nonsense. If people choose to pay extra for a larger cabin why should they be penalised?

Well the cabin steward/ess must take longer to clean larger cabins and suites therefore not being able to clean as many as those cleaning and servicing smaller cabins resulting in less gratuities. If you lived in a 6 bedroom house (which you may do,I don't know) would you expect to pay the same to have it cleaned as somebody living in a flat?

Ken you are under a misapprehension. When you pay your fare that is paying for the cleaning etc. The service charge or tips are because the persons concerned have done an excellent job and does not relate to the size of the job. Regards. ... Neil

Ah well I will leave the argument for now. I'm off on the Ocean Majesty tomorrow and they state that gratuities are included in the price, although I will of course reward good service myself as well. Hope you get this tipping business sorted by the time I return as it certainly seems to be attracting a lot of debate on here.(Not quite as much as the swingers though.) Regards,Ken

No I dont agree why should we pay more gratuties because we stay in a suit.?? Then should we who stay in a suit say ohh do we really need to share this ship or restaurant with the passangers in the standards cabins? We actually get the same "service" we pay for the same food and the cruise to its the same. The diffrent is that we in the suits pay for a larger cabin and belive me I guess that people in the suits they actually pay more gratuities. So I dont se why we should pay for the same extra that other get who have a inside cabin.

Thanks for your comment. To be honest a lot of the people who do stay in suites (not all) do seem to exude that air that they would rather not share the facilities with the rest of us anyway. As regarding gratuities what makes you guess that people staying in suites pay more than the rest of us?I think it is exactly the opposite, because they have paid more for there cabins they tend to be very demanding of the staff and get upset more easily if things are not to their liking.

Gratuities or Tips are supposed to be given for services rendered that one thinks are worthy of recognition. It is ones personal choice as to how much extra 'reward' one should give to whomever you believe deserves it. How therefore can you dictate to individuals, how much and to whom anyone 'rewards'. If you are referring to set amounts that some lines are charging - well, the cost of your cabin is no indicator. There are upgrades given by the line, your next door cabin may have paid a discounted amount on a last minute deal etc. Nightmare to sort out and a recipe for a personal relations disaster.

Can't come along with you on this one, most suite occupants pay more in tips and most cabins are more or less the same size apart from balcony cabins who pay more for the privilege. The other point is that we all eat in the same places so why should someone then pay less. Sorry this just won't fly, regards. .... Neil
