I had heard that sailing away from Venice was an amazing experience and it truly was. This was only our second cruise - the ship was huge and towered over the buildings and canals as we stood on the top deck and drank a toast to the holiday before us. It did not disappoint! The layout and decor of the ship was luxurious. We particularly liked being able to go to dinner when we chose, rather than having a set meal time. We sometimes had to wait a short while for a able for two to be available but the restaurant staff operated a well organised bleeper system. We tried most of the 'eateries' on board and could not find fault with the variety, quality or service. Organised events were taking place most of the time. However it was still easy to find a quiet area to rest, read or just relax. I particularly enjoyed the daily quiz which was available in the library each morning. My one disappointment was that on the day that we should have had a cookery demonstration by the chef and a guided tour of the kitchens, these events were cancelled in favour of a dance competition and other activities. I was later to learn that this was because an episode of 'The Apprentice' was being filmed on board.
We were comfortable, well looked after and would certainly cruise on the Grand Princess again.
