We just returned from "Voyage Home" on the Fred Olsen line.
Flew from Gatwick on Monarch airlines. A very good experience. Embarked onto the ship in Montego Bay, Jamaica and disembarked in Southampton. It was the last cruise for the Braemar before getting extended, so the only negative was the noise from the preparations for the work to be carried out in the renovation. Otherwise the food was fantastic, crew were mostly very good, entertainment very enjoyable, in fact overall it was a memorable experience.

The noise my friend was really not that bad, it did not disturb us one little bit. I do not know what waiters you had but ours were fast with our orders in the Thistle and very obliging and friendly. How could anyone say they were making heoric efforts when the standard was second to none. The voyage home was a good clue, us four all knew about the re-fit when we first booked. We enjoyed this cruise just as all the others--superb.

Whilst I agree in the most part with this review I would like to say that the noise and disruption was unacceptable to many passengers. When making bookings many of us were unaware that this was not a usual relocation cruise but was a journey to dry dock for cutting and extending with preparatory work going on during the voyage. I was on the Braemar for another cruise 4 weeks earlier and the restaurant service was superb. On this relocation cruise there was noticeably slower service in the Thistle restaurant and fewer waiters in evidence. Those that were there were making heroic efforts to maintain standards. I feel Fred could have been more upfront about all this. I think the moral is never go on the last cruise before a refit and, after the dreadful inaugural cruise of the Balmoral, not on the first after a refit either. I will always now ask when booking.
