With the ice show tickets, the Q will be long along the promenade, but don't worry, it goes down really quick and we have always got the tickets for the show we want (it's in the daily paper when they are available). If you miss the time, ask at guest relations, or just Q up on the night and they let you sit in the seats once the ticket peeps have gone in. Don't miss the ice shows, they are brilliant. Take a jumper, it's chilly in there. Get to theatre about 15-20 mins before, should be able to find a seat no problem.

My advice : get to the terminal about 10.30am, nice and early. If you use suit carriers, make sure they zip up all the way round, or the porters won't take them. No need to tip the porters at Southampton (although some people do...)
Take bottled water if you prefer it as it's a right rip off onboard. Although the normal iced water/fruit punches etc are all free and very nice. Don't try and smuggle any booze on board. I have done in the past taken a couple of bottles of champagne, but to be honest i probably wouldn't again, they are quite strict on it (want you to buy their's of course). Wine is expensive, about $35 a bottle, but cocktail of the day pretty good at about $6.95 and spirits are free pour and you get a lot!

Are there any bits of advice that you can give us about the Independence of the Seas as this is our first cruise and there seems to be a hell of a lot to take in. Also any suggestions regarding excursions on the trip to the Canaries?
